LWC softball sweeps Cumberlands at LW Park today

Fourman's walk-off home run secures sweep for No. 7 Lindsey softball on Senior Day, 9-1 and 4-3

COLUMBIA, KY (Sat 16 Apr 2016) - The seventh-ranked Lindsey Wilson softball capped off their regular season home schedule on Saturday afternoon with a sweep of Mid-South Conference foe, Cumberlands (KY). The Blue Raiders took game one 9-1 in five innings, and a walk-off home run in the 10th inning of game two gave Lindsey Wilson a 4-3 victory to conclude the Senior Day doubleheader.

Ralph Henry Thompson, Casey County, KY (1923-2016)

He was a former factory worker and feed mill worker. Mr. Thompson was also a farmer and a proud US Army World War II Veteran. He was a faithful member of the Hilltop Church of Christ.He was a native of Casey County, KY, and a resident of the county at the time of his death. He was the son of the late Jonas "Joe" Bedon Thompson and Mary Belle Lawson Thompson. His wife of 65 years, Juanita Poff Thompson, survives. He leaves three direct living descendants.

Free tire disposal days 5, 6, & 7 May 2016, Adair County

LWC Women's Tennis closes out regular season with 9-0 win

COLUMBIA, KY - No. 3-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's tennis closed out the regular season today with a 9-0 win over Pikeville (KY) on Senior Day at Henry Baughman Tennis Complex.

The Blue Raiders clinched the outright Mid-South Conference regular season title - the program's 12th - and the top-seed in next week's MSC Tournament with today's win.

In her final match at Baughman, Jessica King picked up a pair of wins. She and doubles partner Fiona Curty won 8-1 in the second-seeded match while King posted a 6-0, 6-2 win in singles. King improves to 13-5 in singles this season with her seventh consecutive win.

COLUMBIA, KY (Fri 15 Apr 2016) The 25th-ranked Lindsey Wilson baseball team picked up their 30th win of the season with a 6-4 victory over Shawnee State (Ohio) on Friday night at Egnew Park.

Brandon Munoz led the Blue Raiders (30-17, 10-6 Mid-South Conference) after going 3-for-5 at the plate, while driving in three runs. Aaron Ashton also had a multi-hit game as he went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a walk.

There will be Free Tipping at the Mid-State Transfer Station, 877 L Willis Road, Columbia, KY 7am-4pmCT on Friday, April 22, 2016, and 7am-12pmNoonCT, Saturday, April 23, 2016 provided by Judge Executive Michael Lee Stephens and the Adair Fiscal Court for Adair County Residents to dispose of unwanted items and materials.

The following items WILL NOT be accepted: Hazardous materials of any sort, tires, dirt, concrete, rocks, stacked lumber, steel cables, burning barrels, capacitors, or any sort of tanks (acetylene, oxygen, propane).

Traffic Impact: Metcalfe, Barren Counties, 18-22 Apr 2016

The expected traffic impacts in Metcalfe County and Barren County for April 18 through April 22 are listed below. All work is subject to change:

METCALFE - Ky. 163 Tompkinsville Road - Contractors will begin working on a bridge replacement project over Black Rock Creek (MP 8.474). The first phase of construction will mostly occur along the north side of the roadway. Motorists should be prepared for occasional flagging operations as construction traffic enters and exits the project.

BARREN - Ky. 2189 Glasgow Park City Road – Contractors will continue replacing pipes and constructing shoulders as part of a roadway safety enhancement project that will improve roadside features from U.S. 31-W to U.S. 68. Flaggers will be present to maintain traffic through the work zone.
