Campbellsville University announces administrative changes

By Joan C. McKinney
Coordinating Director for the Office of University Communications

CAMPBELLSVILLE, KY - Campbellsville University President Michael V. Carter has announced several administrative organizational changes at the university.

The reorganization plan is creating a more efficient flow chart for areas associated with Graduate and Professional Studies (GPS) and communication within and outside the university.

"Our administrative changes are the result of our looking at the organization and the impact that several retirements and resignations are having on the administrative services of Campbellsville University," Carter, who is in his 17th year at the university, said.

Wendy Butler Burt will vote Yes on 22 Mar 2016

By Wendy Butler Burt
Personal Commentary

The very first time I tasted wine was in church. It was during communion when I was confirmed (admitted as a full member of the church) at age thirteen. Did this sip of wine lead me down the road to ruin? I think not - I was a good student, enjoyed a full and extremely successful career, and, eventually, retired to Adair County.

Michael Regan: Why can't we say we oppose alcohol sales

By Michael Regan
Personal Commentary

I don't wish to extrapolate the wet/dry issue beyond this one, very revealing statement by the PAC leader favoring the legalization of alcohol sales in Adair County. I quote "Lastly, there is nothing to debate. Nobody, can legitimately say they don't support alcohol sales in Adair Co."

In answer to requests, like this one, CM posts caucus sites

By Elsie Luttrell

Can someone explain in plain language about the Saturday, March 5, 2016, caucus for those of use who aren't so smart. If we all need to go vote Saturday or not even get to vote at all for president, I think we all need to be made aware. I'm sure I am not the only one who is confused about this. I guess I am showing my ignorance by asking. - Elsie Luttrell

Thanks, Elsie Luttrell: We have now posted a list of caucus polling sites for Adair, Casey, Cumberland, Green, Metcalfe, Russell and Taylor Counties. Only registered Republicans can vote for a Presidential choice at the caucuses.

Mitzi Bault: It's about choice

Personal commentary by Mitzi Bault

I have been reading all of the posts about the Wet/Dry vote coming up in a few weeks. As a young teenager you could go to the local bootlegger's and purchase a cheap bottle of wine before you were old enough to drive. You always had a friend that was old enough to drive. A lot of it was just to see if you could buy.

I was raised in a Christian home. Growing up there was never alcohol to drink or to use for medicinal purposes. My mother signed a pledge around the age of 10 that she would never allow alcohol to touch her lips. Her Sunday school teacher Ms. Rosson at the Columbia Baptist Church asked them to sign. At age 83 she has kept her pledge. As a child after signing, she has told us she though she would go to Hell if she took a drink. We have all laughed at that.

Kentucky Department of Revenue Caught Up on Tax Refund Backlog; Implements Longer Call Center Hours Beginning Today. Processing of error free e-filed returns now estimated at 14 days

By Pamela Trautner

Frankfort, KY - The Department of Revenue is currently caught up processing the backlog of tax refund requests and has implemented longer call center hours to assist taxpayers.

The slowdown was attributed to increased identity theft and fraudulent claims, which caused the department to put in additional security features in light of recent high profile data breaches.

To date, the department has received nearly 800,000 returns of which almost 700,000 have been processed. This includes more than 580,000 refunds totaling $197 million. The overall volume of tax returns received is slightly ahead of this time last year.

Poem by Joyce M. Coomer: March flowers tell tales

This little group of March flowers has been in bloom since the first week of February, something very unusual for my March flowers as they usually bloom two weeks later than everyone else's.

March flowers tell tales
Of long-ago homes
Houses whose mistresses
Cherished these harbingers of Spring
Glowing yellow amid leaves
Grayed by winter
Planted between yard and road
In lieu of a fence
Houses are gone
March flowers remain
Strewn down grader ditches
Multiplied and spread
Wave in the breezes
To travelers passing by
Some, as yet undisturbed,
Mark width of steps
Leading to a house
Whose untimely destruction
Grieved many souls

The poem above was inspired by March flowers I noticed in the yard of a good, livable house that was torn down for no good reason that I could see . . . -Joyce M. Coomer Joyce M. Coomer
