Peggy Thompson Mitchell, Greensburg, KY (1928-2016)

She had made a profession of faith in Christ, was a member of the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church, was a homemaker and farmer. She was a member of a prominent Green County, KY family with many close family and friendship ties in Adair County as well. She was the daughter of the late Frank Thompson and Lorraine Squires Thompson, and the widow of James Donald "Don" Mitchell, her husband of over 51 years.

Peggy Thompson Mitchell, age 87 of Greensburg, KY, passed away early Monday, February 29, 2016 at her home.

Funeral services for Peggy Thompson Mitchell will be conducted at 11amCT Thursday, March 3, 2016 at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home, 206 S Main Street, Greensburg, KY with burial to follow in the Greensburg Cemetery. Rev. Emma Nickel and David Givens will be officiating. Visitation is requested from 4pm until 8pmCT Wednesday at the funeral home and after 7amCT Thursday until the 11amCT funeral service.

She was born March 11, 2016. She was the daughter of the late Frank Thompson and Lorraine Squires Thompson. She died February 29, 2016, at the age of 87 years, 11 months, and 18 days.

She had made a profession of faith in Christ, was a member of the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church, was a homemaker and farmer.

She united in marriage to James Donald "Don" Mitchell on July 15, 1946 who preceded her in death on March 13, 1998.
She is survived by:
  • A sister, Dorothy Shelley of Columbia, KY

  • A nephew & niece, J.M. and Marla Shelley of Columbia, KY

  • Two great-nephews, John Marshall Shelley III & his wife Jamie of Columbia KY; and Alex Shelley and his wife Jessica of Taylorsville, KY

  • Four great-great nephews, John Marshall Shelley IV of Lexington, KY and Gabe, Jackson and Seth Shelley all of Taylorsville, KY

  • Special friends Pearl Wooldridge of Adair County, Pat and Judy Judd, Vernon & Sharon Cornett all of Green County, Cecil Haycraft of Leitchfield, and Gwen "Doc" Davis of Cumberland County

  • Caregivers Justine Morgan of Green County, KY; and Rita Parson and Heather Marrs both of Taylor County, KY

  • Furry companion of 14 years, Susie Mitchell

  • And a host of other relatives and friends. Memorials are suggested to the Gideon Bible Fund, which can be made at the funeral home.

    The Cowherd & Parrott Funeral Home, 206 S Main Street, Greensburg, KY, in charge of arrangements.
