Ben Arnold: Unaccounted for ballots could have changed mayoral election outcome

Ben Arnold says Curtis is wrong: "Unaccounted for ballots more than enough to have altered outcome of 4 Nov 2016 Columbia mayoral election . . . The money is not the important issue before the people but rather what kind of Community they want. Voting is how and the only way the citizen can control their government. It is a precious right to be defended, in our country and here in little old Columbia. I am supporting the taxpaying citizens, not elected officials, and those who wish to deflect and try to mislead will be called out by me."
Comments about: Comments re article 79946 Mayor Curtis Hardwick makes statement on lawsuit

By Ben Arnold

The 'unaccounted for' ballots of the Mayoral Election last year were more than enough to have changed the election outcome.

Curtis's statement, "mistakes made were not enough to impact the outcome of the election" is incorrect. The facts were presented at trial and he and the Board of Election (BoE) heard these. Those facts were also detailed in our response to the BoE's Appeal of Judge Vance's ruling. If Curtis wants to challenge Judge Vance's ruling, then get to the facts and present his reasons why those facts are incorrect.

It is encouraging that more people are taking an interest in our past. The Brawner-Smith cemetery is an early one and well-known to those of us who study these things.

Kentucky Color: Identification complete for Antioch School Photo

By Billy Joe Fudge

I've had a little problem following Momma's positioning but here goes. I believe I have it right:
From left: kneeling: G. W. Stotts, Ruble Corbin, Ernest Ray Thompson, James Thompson and Kenneth Wheeler. Left to right by position: Bobby Joe Keen, Jessie Corbin, Donald Campbell, Magaline Wheeler, Barbara England, Leola Hodges, Frank Baker, Wilda Corbin, Dimple Gadberry, Zelma Stotts, Bobby Janes, Joann Gilpin, Polly Wheeler, Junior Dooley, Catherine Corbin, Francis Hodges, Regina Corbin, Bruce Janes, Delbert Corbin, Lucy Gilpin, Davis Campbell and the teacher, Marie Holliday.
Momma is 84 and remembers more about her classmates at this age than I do about mine at age 9 or 10. She probably remembers more about my classmates than I remember.

She has an amazing mind for names and dates of births, events and deaths. Bottom line I think, is that she cares to remember more than most of us today.

All they had was each other, and I think maybe our focus today is much too broad with too little attention to our friends, neighbors, families and the events of which living is composed.

Darryl Smith: A Brawner buried in Brawner Smith Cemetery

Raises possibility the cemetery was named for her

Darryl Smith writes:
Hi again, Ed. Thank Mr. Rogers for the information. I think I know where that graveyard is now, it's on the county map and I overlaid it on Google. Anyway, there is a Brawner (maiden name) there: Elizabeth S. Brawner Smith. She was the daughter of John and Ann Speake Brawner. She married Wyatt Smith. Her parents, John and Ann (possibly Nancy) are probably buried there. Usually (well, generally) the cemetery gets it's name from the first people interred there.

Her daughter was also named Elizabeth, and she married Edmund Pendleton Waggener on August 20, 1855 in the presence of Reuben M. Waggener and Mary Cravens. --Darryl Smith
