In a brief, session, just 27 minutes long, the Columbia City Council approved a new Mayor Pro Tem, Dr. Ron Rogers, approving a total of 14 appointments and reappointments, and approved a resolution authorizing Mayor Curtis Hardwick to enter into an interlocal agreement to continue participation in the Cumberland Workforce investment area.

The appointments approved all by unanimous vote with all council members present,include:

COLUMBIA, KY - Members of the Lindsey Wilson College Singers held a post-game discussion Monday morning about Sunday’s Super Bowl XLIX.

But talk did not center around whether the Seattle Seahawks should have run or thrown on their final possession of the game against eventual Super Bowl champion New England Patriots.

Ruby Bjalobok, 95, Adair County, KY (1919-2015)

She was a member of the Good Shepherd Catholic Church and was a former seamstress. She was a US Army World War II veteran, she hosted foreign exchange students of Adair County High School for many years and was a foster parent to many children. She was also a lifelong advocate for animals. She was a native of Tyronza, Arkansas, and a resident of Columbia, KY, at the time of her death. She was the daughter of the late Charles and Charlotte Coats Preston and the widow of John Bjalobok. She leaves two direct living descendants.

Mrs. Colena Patterson, 53, Green Co., KY (1961-2015)

She had made a profession of faith in Christ and attended Greensburg Baptist Church and Oak Forest Cumberland Presbyterian Church. She was a farmer and a proud NaNa. She was a native of Terre Haute, IN; and a resident of Greensburg, KY, at the time of her death. She was the daughter of Alberta Helen Higgins Johnson and the late David L. Coleman, Sr. Her husband of 20 years, Matthew Patterson, survives. She leaves eight direct living descendants.

COLUMBIA, KY - Senior D'on Hall is the Mid-South Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week, conference officials announced on Monday, February 2, 2015.

The weekly award is the first of the season for Hall and third of his career. He becomes the first Blue Raider to earn the honor this season.

Brenda Hopper Westmoreland, 56, Celina, TN (1958-2015)

She had retired as Staff Sargent after 20 years of service in the Tennessee Air National Guard, and a was a member of Cave Springs Church of Christ in Clay County, TN. She was native of Grant County, IN, and a resident of Clay County, TN, at the time of her death. She was the daughter of Nina Kerr Hopper and the late Ray Hopper. Her husband, Roger Westmoreland, survives. She leaves three direct living descendants.

Signups will be held at the Blue Practice Facility at Joe Johnson Little League Park, 167 Doc Walker Road, Columbia, KY 42728, from 5pm-7pmCT, on the dates above.

In the aftermath of that disaster , Eld. Z.T. Williams and Rev. J.H. Chandler called a meeting at the Adair County courthouse to solicit relief funds for those in direst need, and a large crowd attended that long ago Sunday evening, March 30th, 1913.

TOMPKINSVILLE, KY - Detective Jamie Richard is investigating the death of 19-year-old Cole G. Harlan of Tompkinsville, KY. Post 15 received a call from the Monroe County Sheriff's Department on Sunday, February 1, 2015, at approximately 3:57pmCT, in reference to a male subject (Harlan) that had been transported to the Monroe County Medical Center with a gunshot wound.
