Letter: commends Westlake Staff, sees need for hospital

Bill Wheat writes:
Ed, I would like to take time and thank *Westlake Hospital and the ER staff that was on duty Sunday when I had to take my wife there for chest pains and a possible MI. They worked hard and professionally to get her stable and called Air Vac. They did everything right and timely, which prevented her from having more damage to her heart.

They are to be commended for the hard work they do to save lives, although the hospital is troubled and short of personnel. Again I commend them for a job well done and for doing what they do. Now I see why we need to keep our hospital: the doctor in Louisville said everything was done as it should have been done and in the right time frame. - Bill Wheat
*Westlake Regional Hospital, 901 Westlake Drive, Columbia, KY. Phone 270-384-4753. CEO Neal Gold. Board Chairman Richard Grant, members David Herbst, Brad Keltner, and Bruce White. (One board vacancy).

By Sharon Whitehurst

Our April plantings were caught in a spell of cold and rain, leaving the seed sulking and rotting in the ground.

Precious cats free to loving home

Megan Hadley writes:
I have two striped tabbies, theyre both males that are very social and friendly. I rescued them when they were a few weeks old and bottle fed them, so they love people. They do need more attention then I can give them right now, and I don't think it's fair to them so I would like to find a better home for them. They don't have to be taken together although that is preferred. I'm not sure how they would do as barn cats, but as long as they do get human interaction regularly I think they might be OK. They come with litter boxes, a bag of food, bed, toys, treats and a kitty condo. They have had their vaccines for this year. The day they leave my home is going to be sad for me because they are so sweet. They're everything you want in a cat!! Please call/text me if you\'re interested. 270-250-5900. - Megan Hadley

Maury Lewis: Good Samaritan cut weeds out of ditch

Made her end of Beautiful Joppa more beautiful

By Maury Lewis

I want to say thanks to the person who helped cut down some of the weed and wildflowers growing in the drainage ditch in front of my property on Combest Drive today. That part of that ditch has gotten so deep it is hard for me to take care of it.

I called around to see what it was going to cost me to get some one to weed eat it for me and the price given was from 30.00 to 90.00 and then a boy from church came over and we walked out to the ditch and the deep end had been cut over the top by someone I guess with a side cutter. It was not manicured like a lawn person would have done but it was cut way back and lot easier for me to finish. A great big Bless you to the one who did it. Melewi - Maury Lewis
