She was a member of a large, highly regarded Adair County, KY, family. She was a native of Chicago, IL and a long time resident of Columbia, KY, at the time of her death. She was the daughter of the late Harry & Alma Buckles Barkley. Her husband, Ronald T. Hale, survives. She leaves 11 direct living descendants. She was a was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic & was a Respiratory Therapist at Westlake Regional Hospital for several years.

Karen L. Hale age 68 of Columbia, KY passed away Monday, June 23, 2014 at 3:10pmET at the Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown, KY.

Funeral service Thursday, June 26, 2014 at 10amCT, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY, with Rev. Clifton Hale & Bro. Jim Hagan officiating. Interment will be in Haven Hill Cemetery, 1276 Liberty Road, Columbia, KY. Visitation after 4:30pmCT, Wednesday, June 25, 2014, at the funeral home.


Pallbearers Ricky Hale, Jeremy Hale, Nick Hale, Mike McMinoway, Ernie Rogers and Ricky Coble.

She was born on Wednesday, March 20, 1946 in Chicago, IL She was the daughter of the late Harry & Alma Buckles Barkley. She died Monday, June 23, 2014, in Elizabethtown, Hardin County, KY, at the age of 68 years, 3 months, and 3 days.

She is survived by her husband Ronald T. Hale of Columbia, KY, and the following:
  • One daughter: Deborah Hale of Paris, KY

  • Two sons: Eric Hale & wife Nadine of Paris, KY; and Ronnie Hale & his wife Pam of Columbia, KY

  • Five grandchildren: Jeremy Hale, Nicholas Hale, Tiffany McMinoway, Heather Hale & Brittany Hale

  • Three great grandchildren: Adelyn McMinoway, Jace McMinoway & RyAnna Hale

  • Nieces & nephews: Linda Kairis, Ricky Coble, Laurie Kern, Don Hale, Geraldine Hale, Donnie Hale, Jr., Ricky Hale, Melody Hale, Ernie Rogers, Donna Hancock, Michelle Lewis, Paula Jessie & Jackie D. Jessie

  • And a host of other relatives & friends
Karen was a was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic & was a Respiratory Therapist at Westlake Regional Hospital for several years.
