Driver injured in two vehicle collision on KY 55 S of Columbia, KY Adair County Sheriff's Office reports Georgia driver fell asleep at wheel, leaves roadway, re-enters, crosses centerline and collides with vehicle with Adair County driver, passenger, both of whom sustained minor injuries. Driver of Georgia vehicle, who was trapped in overturned vehicle until local resident freed him. He did not immediately go to hospital, but did so later by private vehicle and later was flown to a trauma center. Units from ACSO, Adair County Fire department, Adair County EMS, and Kentucky Highway Department respond to scene. Click on headline for complete story From the Adair County Sheriff's Department A two vehicle crash occurred about three miles south of Columbia on Highway 55 South on Saturday June 21st at around 1:45pmCT. Jefferey Eversole, age 57 of Georgia, was operating a 1994 Toyota pickup when he fell asleep at the wheel. Eversole's vehicle traveled off the roadway and re-entered the roadway crossing the center line. Eversole's vehicle struck a 2013 Ford pickup being operated by Sammy Taylor, age 66 of Columbia. Eversole's vehicle overturned and came to rest in the ditch line on it's top. Eversole was trapped in the vehicle between the seat's headrest and the top of the cab. He was freed by a resident who seen the accident occur. Taylor and his passenger, Margaret Taylor, sustained minor injuries. Eversole did not immediately go to the hospital but was taken later by private vehicle. It was reported that he had several head injuries and was flown to a trauma center. The Adair County EMS responded to the scene along with personnel from the Adair/Columbia Fire Department and the State Highway Department.
