Magistrate Harold Burton: Helping out in Fire Jurisdiction case

2014-04-09 - Adair Annex, 424 Public Square, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener.
Magistrate Harold Burton (District 1) volunteered to join Adair County Judge Ann Melton and Magistrate Billy Rowe (District 7) and attend a meeting of the Adair County Fire Department District Chiefs about a problem David Bledsoe and several families on Gentry Mill Road have related to Fire Department Jurisdictions. The homeowners are 4 miles from the Fire Department in Russell Springs, 10 miles from Columbia. Because of that, response times would ordinarily be greater from Columbia, but the homeowners, Judge Ann Melton told the court, face higher insurance premiums which would be lowered if they re served by Russell Springs. Judge Melton said that in her initial contact with the Adair County Fire Chiefs, they were reluctant to alter boundaries because requests for changes would be unending. She and the magistrates want to see if a solution for the homeowners might be found. The meeting is set for 7pmCT, May 7, 2014, the first Wednesday in the month.

Letter: Thank you, Mr. Locksmith, you were truly an angel

Betty Coop writes:
I have a praise to share about God's goodness and His close interest in our everyday lives. Today I found myself locked out of my house. I had gone outside and my keys were left inside. Somehow, the storm door locked and I could not get back in. I could see my keys laying on the bar, but out of reach. I walked around for a few minutes, trying to get a grip on my problem. I raised my hands and said "God, what am I to do?" I saw my good friend, who lives across the road, out in her yard.

I walked over and we were discussing my dilema when she said "Look, look, there is a locksmith coming down the road." We began to wave and shout. He stopped and I told him I had locked myself out of the house. He asked if I had called him. I replied "No, God called you."

He said "I have been called by Him before." We returned to my house where he unlocked my storm door. He said he did not understand how the door had locked. My offer to pay him was refused, so we exchanged hugs and talked about God's goodness and he went on his way. I really believe God sent him to show how He cares about us in all situations.

This experience was a blessing to me and that is why I am sharing it with you. Thank You, Mr. Locksmith. You were truly an angel. --Betty Coop

By Drew Tucker

CAMPBELLSVILLE, KY - Paxton Bloyd, age 5, son of Cheslee and Jamie Ennis Bloyd and grandson of Campbellsville University Associate Professor of Education Beverly Ennis, was diagnosed with Stage IV Burkitt's lymphoma in March 2014. Burkitt's lymphoma is a type of non-Hodgkins lymphoma. The "Paxton Strong" effort was created to encourage people to pray for Paxton and his family. People such as country music singer George Strait, the original "Incredible Hulk" Lou Ferrigno, the Kentucky State Senate, and basketball players from the University of Kentucky and Western Kentucky University are just some of the supporters of the effort. Student-athletes from CU came together on Monday, April 7 to offer up their prayers and show support for the effort as well. Campbellsville University student-athletes support the effort by showing what it takes to be "Paxton Strong."

CJE Ann Melton: Plan to soften the blow of FoL plant closing

First Response to Election 2014, Issue question : What will do if elected - or re-elected to address the employment and economic problems created by the closing of the Fruit of the Loom Plant at Jamestown? comes from CJE Ann Melton. Mike Stephens and Joe Rogers have been contacted and their responses are expected soon
Issues/Election 2014: Responses to Fruit of Loom Closing

From Adair CJE Ann Melton

It is with regret that I must address the issue of Fruit of the Loom closing in neighboring Russell County. It's very discouraging to watch industry leave our communities and travel overseas. Six hundred people are now without work. This is crippling too many families, and more than one community has been hit. The number of job losses for our county is still unknown at this time, but even one, is one too many.
