CJE Ann Melton: Plan to soften the blow of FoL plant closing First Response to Election 2014, Issue question : What will do if elected - or re-elected to address the employment and economic problems created by the closing of the Fruit of the Loom Plant at Jamestown? comes from CJE Ann Melton. Mike Stephens and Joe Rogers have been contacted and their responses are expected soon Issues/Election 2014: Responses to Fruit of Loom Closing From Adair CJE Ann Melton It is with regret that I must address the issue of Fruit of the Loom closing in neighboring Russell County. It's very discouraging to watch industry leave our communities and travel overseas. Six hundred people are now without work. This is crippling too many families, and more than one community has been hit. The number of job losses for our county is still unknown at this time, but even one, is one too many. As Adair County Judge/Executive I've spent many years ensuring that we have a work-ready community. I stand proudly on our unemployment statistics compared to other communities surrounding us, and state wide. The fiscal court and I will continue to work with the economic development board, state and federal leaders, and local entrepreneurs to make sure our voices are heard. The Fiscal Court and I have open ears and hearts to anyone with suggestions or ideas as I have, and always will endorse an open door policy. County Judge Ann Melton & Adair County Fiscal Court Comments are especially invited from Candidates for U.S. House of Representatives, U.S. Senate State Senate, State House of Representatives, County Judge Executive posts, and Magistrates in the counties in CM's Primary Service area of Adair, Casey, Cumberland, Green, Metcalfe, Russell and Taylor Counties, which will be affected by the closing. We suggest statements of up to one-half page in length. This story was posted on 2014-04-09 06:20:12
