Traffic Advisory: Big boiler taking meandering route

By Keith Todd

We have an oversized load moving through Western Kentucky that may slow traffic, particularly as it maneuvers through intersections and interchanges.

This oversized load from Tennessee is traveling from Mayfield north on the Purchase Pkwy to I-24 Eastbound at this time. The load will travel I-24 eastbound to US 68 at Cadiz. It will then travel east on US 68 through and around Hopkinsville and on to Bowling Green. It is then expected to take I-65 North to the Bluegrass Pkwy eastbound headed for Ohio.

This is a boiler of some type that is 23 ft. wide and over 15 ft tall. It is taking something of a meandering route through Kentucky to be able to clear some overpasses and other obstacles. It is moving at a slow speed with a police escort.

Please use caution if you encounter this oversized load as it may impede traffic at some locations.

The trip through Kentucky is expected to take 2 or 3 days with the load stopping at night. - Keith Todd, Public Information Officer, District 1 & 2, Kentucky Transportation Cabinet

Democratic Womens Scholarship application deadline is near

Victoria Pike
President Adair County Democratic Women's Club

The last date to apply for the Adair County Democratic Women's Scholarship will be this Thursday, February 20, 2014. Applications are available at Adair County High School from Ann Young. One application will be forwarded to the KY Democratic Women's Club for consideration for two $1,500 scholarships. We have called the chairman of the state scholarship committee, Sharon Belcher, and one rule has been changed on the application. Instead of requiring that both parents be registered Democrats, it has been changed to the following: If parents are divorced and the child is in the custody of the Democrat parent, the child may apply for the states scholarship if that parent is a registered Democrat. Ms. Belcher said it had become necessary to make adjustments to the requirements in a conversation with our local scholarship chairman this past week. -- Victoria Pike
