News from the Adair County School District

Adair County Middle School was honored last Friday when State Representative John "Bam" Carney dropped by to view for himself the "Stamp Project" that Mr. Ashbrook's 6th Grade Social Studies classes had completed. Mr. Ashbrook had contacted him and sent pictures of the project with an invitation for him to stop by and view the projects. To everyone's surprise, Representative Carney was thrilled and excited about the project and wanted to make a trip down to see them. His first date was Monday, February 10, but due to the schools being closed he had to reschedule.

When he stopped by Friday, the winners were called down to meet with Representative Carney and discuss their projects. He was thrilled with what he saw especially since he is a middle school social studies teacher himself in Taylor County. After seeing their work he informed the students that he will be putting a proclamation on the floor to recognize the students and the best stamp as the "unofficial" Kentucky Stamp. The students were thrilled as he picked out different ones and discussed how it connected to our great state. He even took pictures on his cell phone. Superintendant Reed, as well as Principal Rich were present when he asked all the winners if they would like to come to Frankfort and see their work on display. Both administrators agreed to the trip on the spot.

The adults in the room knew just how important it actually was that he had taken time out of his busy schedule to spend time with the children. He had been in legislative session all morning and still had to go to Knifley to view the damage from the explosion but, by the way he spoke with the children, he seemed to have all the time in the world just for them.

The winners include: Ty Cheatham, Walter Baker, Devon Karnes, Elizabeth Bair, Emma Grider, Caylee Hardin, Noah Abrell, Dominic Sanford, Jacoby Abrell , Madelyn Harmon, Mackenzie Coomer, Hannah Brown, David Adams, Jacob Morrison, Riley Rogers, Dana Greer, Natalie Curry, Shelby Jones, Michael Hancock, Jakobe Payne, Gavin Bloyd, Lauren Grant, Kaylee Robinson, Macy Brown, Jonathan Wood, and Jeanene Pike.

Superintendant Reed had nothing but praise for Representative Carney. He stated "Not only does he have time for our students but he has been pivotal in securing teachers for the Adair County Satellite Campus in both the area of Health Sciences Occupation and Welding/Metal Fabrication."
