Wonders why fire department chili suppers on same day

Frances Salyers writes:
I was just noticing on March 1, 2014, that we have two auctions and chili suppers at the same time, one at Knifley and one at Adair County Fire Department. Do these groups realize this, or could it just not be helped. It's hard to support both if at the same time. Frances Salyers
Of course a valid point. There is always a lot going on in Adair County, so maybe it just couldn't be helped. By now, we hope that everyone is using, among other things, the CM Calendar of Events before announcing an event, to check for possible conflicts. It could make a huge difference this year, especially since it's an election year. - EW

Poetry by Robert Stone: Hope that I embrace

Hope that I embrace
- a villanelle for the birthday of Clara Elizabeth Ellis
While I have never seen you face to face,
to know the sound of voice, the words you choose,
to meet at last is hope that I embrace.

No other wishes will this wish displace
to pay with thanks as deficit accrues
while I have never seen you face to face.

Procrastination much delays my race
to show the trembling truth my heart pursues
to meet at last is hope that I embrace.

I would desire flame up and set a pace
to catch up laps long lost without excuse
while I have never seen you face to face.

Between us is so far unmeasured
to foster expectations of a ruse
to meet at last is hope that I embrace.

Intentions have not changed in this my chase
to color future bright with rainbow hues
while I have never seen you face to face
to meet at last is hope that I embrace.
- Robert Stone, 11 February 2014
