Resident of KY 900 for 25 years praises KY Highway Dept.

Comments re article 64434 Jarrett Miller says KY 900 gets little from road crew

By Shelly Grady
Personal Commentary

I just had to respond to this article. I lived off Road 900 for over 25 years; I still have family and children who live out there. In the 25 plus years I have lived out there, that road was always taken care of; because of the turns and the way the road leans and the hills, I can remember thinking, "Man, they got this one fast."

I always knew it was a C road and I always knew the road crews would clean it when they got a chance. I was also grateful they would come salt and clear it considering it is a dangerously curvy hill! I feel like the road crews are still doing their jobs as ALL of my children are able to get in and out and do not miss days for work due to weather.

I think, given the extent of the weather this year and the severity of the temperatures, we should be more thankful the road crews can even start the trucks required to drop salt and clear the roads. - Shelly Grady

Larry Smith: Weather is even harsher today

Milk is scheduled to be back on shelves in Campbellsville starting at 8amET. And Larry Smith goes on record with PREDICTION: Schools will be closed again on Wednesday, too.

By Larry Smith, FM 92.7 the WAVE and FM 99.9 The Big Dawg

With the temperatures dipping below 0 and wind chill factors in the -18 and more, conditions are more dangerous today than yesterday. The commute between Columbia and Campbellsville is doable, but extra care is needed to watch for patches of ice.

I want to go on record to predict that all schools in the area will be closed again tomorrow. You caan call my hand on it tomorrow, if I'm not right, but it is wickedly cold today.

And, city streets and county roads are still icy, today; these temperatures, salt is just not effective.

One ray of hope in our Siberian lives: The milk trucks will be arriving, at least in Campbellsville, this morning at 8amET. I hunted several places last night, and couldn't find a drop of milk for sale. At least we've got that going for us. And Marvin Gaye on The WAVE this morning to make us feel good. Stay warm today, my friends. - LARRY SMITH.

My Angela would love to have a friend or two who speak Russian and can just talk. She talks with her family in Ukraine on her computer using Skype, but a local friend would make her so much happier to live in Columbia. Anyone can call her a 270-378-6344, after 9amCT and until 11pmCT. We retire late and do not rise early. - Charles Miller

Road crews do an awesome job

Leshia Fair writes:
I think Adair County has an awesome road crew and that they do an awesome job. I have lived on "C" roads in the past and it is frustrating in inclement weather, but I get that it has to be prioritized. But what I do know is - this county's "main roads" are very well maintained. I cross the county line twice a day - no matter the weather - and you know when when you hit the county line.

I have even heard people from surrounding counties speak of how well the roads are maintained here, particularly in the winter time. These guys get out of bed and hit the roads when the rest of us are glad not to have to. I think they need a pat on the back. Thanks for taking such good care and making it safe for those that have to travel on these roads. - Leshia Fair
