Columbia Rotary Club reverts to evening meetings After year long trial, local Rotary decides noon meetings not the best - so now meetings will again be at 6pmCT, Monday evenings. If you are interested in joining Rotary or just attending a meeting, let one of Columbia's Rotarians know or just show up at one of the twice monthly meetings. All are welcome. By George Kolbenschlag The Columbia Rotary Club will be returning to the club's traditional evening meetings with its first meeting of the New Year January 13, 6pmCT. at the Lindsey Wilson Dining Center, 430 Spickard Drive, Columbia, KY. Early last year the local club changed its traditional weekly evening dinner meetings to twice a month lunch meetings as part of an International Rotary Club three year program testing some of Rotary's long-standing practices in an effort to address changing life patterns of members and potential members. Rotary Clubs from 1,300 of the 32,000 clubs world-wide applied for participation in the program. The Columbia club was one of only 300 selected. Although the club welcomed four new members in 2013, some present members found the noon meetings inconvenient and other potential members could not join because of noon-time work commitments. The club will continue meeting just twice a month, the first and third Monday evenings. The usual meeting place and time is 6:00 p.m. at the Lindsey Wilson Dining Center. Meetings include dinner and either a program or business meeting. The meetings last one hour. The Rotary club will continue at least one other variance from the typical Rotary agenda by offering a more flexible attendance policy which has proven popular since it began last year. Columbia Rotary is part of Rotary International, a worldwide organization of business and professional leaders that provides opportunities for service not only locally in Adair County, but throughout the world in cooperation with more than 1.2 million Rotarians in more than 200 countries. The local club is a diverse group of men and women who participate in many local and Rotary International projects. Founded in 1935, the Columbia club is one of the oldest Rotary clubs in Kentucky. If you are interested in joining Rotary or just attending a meeting, let one of Columbia's Rotarians know or just show up at one of the twice monthly meetings. All are welcome. - GEORGE KOLBENSCHLAG This story was posted on 2014-01-07 04:16:45
