Russell Co. claims Clifton Aaron; he will be missed, remembered

Mary writes:
Sorry to tell you that Russell County claims Clifton as its own. He lived here during his early years, probably his birthplace. He was as popular here as he was in Taylor county. His family lived at the intersection of Hwy 55 and 379 in the southern part of the county, if I recall correctly his father may have had a general store on the corner of the intersection. His wife, Peggy is from the same area. Clifton was always a generous and kind individual, as was his family. He will be missed and remembered in both counties. --Mary (Contact information on file

RUSSELL SPRINGS, - Governor Steve Beshear today joined local and company officials at an official welcome celebration for Dr. Schneider Automotive Systems Inc. The Germany-based automotive supplier is establishing a manufacturing operation in Russell Springs, creating 155 full-time jobs and investing more than $29 million in Kentucky.

"Dr. Schneider Automotive Systems is a world-class company with plants all over the globe," said Gov. Beshear. "We are excited to have Dr. Schneider in the Commonwealth, and we welcome the 155 jobs and $29 million investment in Russell Springs. This is a company with a rich history and a promising future, and we're especially happy to see it join our thriving auto industry."

CU becomes 4th school offering dual credit courses at ACHS

Update August 29, 2013: There are actually 6 schools now offering dual credit. Ann Young, Guidance Counselor notes that, in addition to the four listed in the CU article, below, ACHS offers dual credit courses from Murray State University (Murray, KY); and Kentucky State University (Frankfort, KY).
Campbellsville University joins Lindsey Wilson College, Western Kentucky University, and Somerset Community College making college level courses, with college hours and high school credits available at the same time. Vice President for Admissions and Student Services Dave Walters said with the agreement complete, "CU considers it a privilege to be able to expand on this existing partnership and provide several educational opportunities for the students of the Adair County district. Our missions are very similar in that we all want what is best for the students"

Mr. Clifton G. Aaron, 86, Taylor Co., KY (d. Aug. 28, 2013)

He was a favorite son of Adair, Russell and Taylor Counties. He was born in Adair County, much of his early life was in Russell County, and he became a major figure in Taylor County life and was a leading businessman there. He had owned two auto parts stores, one of which was the NAPA store in Campbellsville, KY, which he sold to Steve McKinney. At the tiime of his death he continued to operate "Big Chief's" a gunstore and lunch counter. After the death of Better Burgers was closed in Columbia, KY, he bought the recipe and continued them on the menu at Big Chief's. A friend, Larry Smith, called him "Unique." And added, "He was one of a kind. We'll never see another like Mr. Clifton Aaron."

Alein T. Wade, Adair County, KY (1924-2013)

She was a member of a distinguished Adair County, KY family. She was a native of Adair County, where her final earthly resting place will be.Alein was a special lady. Widowed with two young children at the age of 32, she went back to school at Western Kentucky University to become a teacher. She started out in a one room school in Adair County and went on to become the principal of Crum's Lane Elementary in Jefferson County. She was a member of Phi Beta Kappa Sorority, Jefferson Co. Association of Elementary School Principals, Jefferson County Association of School Administrators, Kentucky Education Association, Adair County Retired Teachers Association and Kentucky Retired Teachers Association, a member of the Columbia Christian Church. Alein was fortunate enough to find love again with George Wade and was able to share her life with him until he passed away in 1998.

Interment will be in the Haven Hill Cemetery, 1276 Liberty Road, Columbia, KY. Visitation will be after 9amCT/10amET, on Saturday at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home.

Tutoring services offered after school for any Adair County High School Student who needs it, free of charge, by Extended School Services

Adair County High School is fortunate to offer extended school services this year for every student, free of charge.

We will be accepting teacher and parent recommendations for students who are at risk of failing, who need to attain a credit in a previously failed course, who need additional time to learn the content presented in the classroom, or who need to make up a quiz or test.

FRANKFORT, Ky. - Governor Steve Beshear announced today that Kentucky now has 149 permanent prescription drug disposal locations in 97 counties, creating more opportunities for residents to safely dispose of unused, unneeded or expired medications.

She was the former owner/operator of the Farmer's Service Store in Russell Springs, KY. She was a member of the Russell Springs Christian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Garland Cundiff. She leaves 15 direct living descendants

KPS Post 15 investigating two car, injury collision in Lebanon

Kentucky State Police Post 15, Columbia, KY

LEBANON, KY - Trooper Josh Dicken is investigating a collision that occurred Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at 11:40amET 1 mile east of Lebanon on Danville Hwy. 16-year-old Elizabeth Lambe of Lebanon was operating a 2001 Honda Civic when she pulled out of Woolridge Lane into the path of a 2000 Ford Taurus. The Taurus was traveling east on Danville Hwy and was operated by 60-year-old James Linton. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts and were transported to Springview Hospital, Lebanon, KY. - TFC Billy Gregory
