Mr. Downey was a beloved member of a highly regarded, influential northwest Adair County, KY family. He was a member of the Columbia United Methodist Church and the owner of A and B Downey Lumber Company, Greensburg, KY, for many years.

Arlin Downey age 73 years of 5867 Columbia Highway, Greensburg, KY died suddenly Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at 11 amCT at the Jane Todd Crawford Hospital Emergency Room in Greensburg, KY, from injuries received earlier in a tree limb cutting accident on his farm in Green County, KY.

The funeral service will be Friday, March 9, 2012 at 1:00 pmCT at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY. Clergy officiating will be Rev. Jadell Janes and Rev. Jamie Bryant. Interment in the Columbia Cemetery, 315 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY. The family requests visitation after 3pmCT on Thursday, March 8, 2012, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home.

West Liberty, KY, Christian Church leveled by tornado

The Red Cross web site shows the total destruction of the West Liberty Christian Church building in Morgan County. I have learned that Dr. Jeff Metcalf, President at Kentucky Christian University is coordinating a relief effort for that congregation. People in Harvest, Alabama appreciated the thoughtfulness of the 3trees member who had embroidered words of encouragement on the pillow cases the Russell Springs, KY, church sent, Maury Lewis remembers from mission work there last year

A couple of the things the people needed and asked for in Alabama were underwear (male, female, adults and children All sizes) and pillows.The 3 Trees Church group I went down there with to work had sent some pillows with the pillow cases on them. Some one at the church had embroidered some encouraging words on the pillow cases, The people were very grateful to find out some one was that thoughtful. --Maury E Lewis

Betty J. Williams, Clementsville, KY (1932-2012)

Ed, I have noticed that there is a considerable amount of relief effort for far Eastern Ky, West Liberty and that area, which is great. I wonder about our neighbors is the London/Laurel County, as they also were hit hard and lost several folks too. New relief effort will lend assistance to Morgan County, KY

The Adair County Way: Even with huge headaches from the storm in Adair County, the community is mobilizing to help neighbors in Kentucky and Indiana whose plight is so many, many times worse.

Thinks service after the storm proves community is the best

Ed, I just want to say how wonderful it is to live in the community here. We have lived in smal communities in several states, but I have to say this is the best . Friday after the hail storm was over and we knew it was safe to come out of basement and went out to check our vehicles. My agent pulled in the drive to make sure we were all ok and when knew continued down the road to check the rest of their clients to make sure everyone was ok to me that was amazing I have state farm insurance and Tammy Bryant and Jill Smith are awesome agents. They are on top of things Jill has looked at everyone's house which was hit, but her own. She said I have windows and mine can wait Wow! What service. --Dianne Loy

President Obama Signs Kentucky disaster declaration

The WHITE HOUSE (2012-03-06) -The President today declared a major disaster exists in the Commonwealth of Kentucky and ordered Federal aid to supplement commonwealth and local recovery efforts in the area affected by severe storms, tornadoes, straight-line winds, and flooding during the period of February 29 to March 3, 2012.

The President's action makes federal funding available to affected individuals in the counties of Johnson, Kenton, Laurel, Lawrence, Menifee, Morgan, and Pendleton.
