I am very sorry to hear about Emily. I absolutely adored her. When I was in high school I always looked forward to three o'clock when she and all the other fabulous ladies would come to the coffee shop. They always told me to take a break and I would sit down and chat with them. They were always the highlight of my day. Emily's family is in my thoughts.-Ann Flowers

Victoria Pike writes:
Miss Emily Sargent will be greatly missed by many in the community. She was so active in many organizations. She was a long time member of the Adair Co. Democrat Women's Club. She loved working the door when we would host a rally because she loved seeing and talking to people. My favorite memory of her will be hearing her say "I just love you to pieces," and the big hug that went along with that. Also, her wonderful sense of style and grace.Victoria Pike

Loves Sulphur Creek in Snow Time, by Tony Streeval

Picture brings back memories of childhood days on Sulphur Creek

Sandra Irvin writes:
Love this picture! This is where I grew up and played many a day in the cold creek along with my brothers and sisters. Reminds me of the good ole days, as they say.

I feel fortunate that Kali has had the same chances to play in Sulphur Creek, but around 6 miles closer to town. Thank God!

Those of you who know my daughters know that Amy has used the creek only for picture taking. She is not my outdoors girl.

Thanks for sharing the picture! -Sandra Irvin

Ferocity Index: Junkyard Dog vs. Rockquarry Dog

Shamrock Ed Williams' German Shepherd once attempted to remove yr humble scribe's right front tire

Billy Joe Fudge writes:
Another Dog Story

As you will surmise from the following "true" story: Junkyard Dog's reputations for toughness are nothing compared to that of a Rockquarry Dog.

Shamrock Ed Williams had a German Sheppard down at his home in the Flatwoods back around 1970, which, upon my unannounced arrival made a most earnest attempt to remove my right front tire from the rim.

Because of his dogged determination and ability to shake my vehicle and reproduce the din of an incensed wolf pack, I came to the conclusion that given enough time he would accomplish his goal.

Since I saw no tire lying around with which I could replace mine and since Ed was apparently not at home, I decided to ease back out of the yard and vowed as did General MacArthur that I would return. -yr humble scribe, Billy Joe Fudge

Life at Bobby Lynn Graves Farm: A little drama in 3 pictures

Introduction. Click on headline for album

Everyday occurences at the idyllic Bobby Lynn Graves farm,, a magical, utopian kingdom across Petty's Fork on KY 61 North, provides a never-ending theatre, captured by photographer Jennifer Crawhorn in the accompanying three-act photo play.Thousands of small dramas are played out every day on the farm.

Some have quick lessons. A majestic ass, Valentino, proves a dystopian concept from "Animal Farm" that all animals are created equal, but some are more equal than others. Valentino is the self-appointed ruler of his realm. Totally self reliant and autocratic, he begs no help from PETA or other animal rights group. He takes matters into his own hands, thank you! He renegotiates each day, and gets results in short order.

And that includes a lesson for those of us who are musically challenged: We'd probably get faster service if we'd threaten to sing.Valentino, despite his efforts in the vocal arts, has received no accolades for his concerts. Rather, his claim to fame is testerone-based. He, like his namesake, it quite the lover. -Ed Waggener

Comments re article 41721 Dog fired needs to find his home again

Barbara Armitage writes:
Now I'm sure that this dog shouldn't be fired.

Absolutely. This guy has Upper management material written all over him. Surely quarry vice presidential material. Even if William Burton couldn't see the potential, everybody knows that quarry legend Shamrock Ed Williams would have, if the Fired Dog had shown up at his operation. As you now know, the Fired Dog has his old contract back. He's on the job at home. -EW

Martha Berry displays LWC Bumper Sticker in Campbellsville, KY

Comments re article 41753: Sue Stivers wants LWC to be Number 1 in Battle of Bumpers

Martha Berry writes:
I agree with Sue Stivers.

I have had a LWC license plate since the first year they came out and display it proudly here in C-ville.

I tell all that I have to fly my colors over in this nest of Baptists.
I love to drive down the street and see the LWC plates and wonder who is driving the car.

I am very proud of our College. - Martha Berry
Note to Readers: I hope none of my fellow Baptists will take offense at the term for a group of Baptists. Martha Berry is a known Methodist and the daughter of Dr. V.P. Henry, a revered former President of Lindsey Wilson College./ Her remarks, we are sure, are quite innocent, not meant to steer things up and awaken the sleeping Tiger. While we always refer to a group of two or more as A Prayer of Baptists we do respect Martha Berry's right to be as unPC as she wishes. We do salute her fervor and zeal, and hope her letter will inspire more buyers of Lindsey Wilson license plates. Also, the search continues for a 100% family, office, or business with LWC plates. -Ed Waggener
