Lichen covered bird nest: Camouflage? or did lichen just take over? Unusual surprise awaited tree cutters at Sycamore Springs, leaving unanswered questions Click on headline for story plus photo By Cindy Meyer News from Sycamore Springs While having a few trees cut down that had died, during clean up I found an odd knot in the crook of one of the limbs. Upon closer inspection, it was not a knot, but a bird's nest covered in lichen! I have no idea what kind of bird's nest it is, or if it was occupied this season. No broken eggs or baby birds were found near the site. Maybe some reader could share some light as to what kind of bird it may have been; and if the bird purposely, painstakingly, covered the nest with lichen to camouflage it or had the nest been use in a previous season and lichen took over since? -Cindy Meyer 2010-04-23 12:26:39 | Comments | Printable version
