Obituary: Arlus (Red) Bernard, 83, Russell Co., KY

He was a member of a large, highly regarded Russell County family, a farmer, and a member of Mt. Olivet Baptist Church. He leaves 79 living descendants.

Arlus "Red" Bernard, age 83, of Hwy 1545, Russell Springs, KY, died Wednesday evening, April 21, 2010 at the Russell County Hospital, Russell Springs, KY.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 24, 2010, at 1pmCT, at the Bernard Funeral Home Chapel, 367 Main ST, Russell Springs, KY, with burial in the New Friendship Cemetery. He will be accorded full military honors. Visitation is after 5pmCT, Friday, April 23, 2010, at the funeral home



Arlus "Red" Bernard, Russell Co., KY (1926-2010)

He was the son of the late Loucretia Young Bernard and Tom Bernard. He was born in Russell County, KY, on Thursday, September 30, 1926, and died in Russell Springs, Russell Co., KY, on Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at the age of 83 years, 6 months, and 22 days.

He was a member of the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church and a farmer.

He is survived by his wife, Ovelene Bernard, and the following:
  • Eight Children: Loretta Cherry, Wanda Conner, Ronnie Bernard, Andrew Bernard, Allen Bernard and Jamie Bernard, all of Russell Springs, KY; Janie Wall of Columbia, KY; and Mark Bernard of Windsor, KY

  • One brother: Jay Bernard of Cincinnati, OH

  • Twenty-eight grandchildren

  • Forty-three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two children, Patricia Kinnett and David Bernard, and by four sisters and four brothers.

Bernard Funeral Home, 367 Main ST, Russell Springs, KY, in charge of arrangements.
