Letter: About Happy Hollow Barn

About: Adair Co., KY Photo from the Past: Happy Hollow barn sign

Kathy Grant writes:
How nice to see this picture!!

For those who don't know, that barn as well as several homes and whole stands of timber was completely taken by the tornado that went through Holmes Bend in the 1990's. The devastation was heart-breaking! Happy Hollow was my husband's home. He is Earl Grant, the middle son of the late Walter and Ruby Grant.

Thank you for including it.

Wants more on location of Happy Hollow barn

About: Adair Co KY Photo from the Past: Happy Hollow barn sign picture by Tony Harvey

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

We live on Holmes Bend Rd. and were wondering if anyone knew just where this barn was located. Thanks.

Trudy and Mike Crabb

Hate describe it without giving mile markers, but it stood on the east side (right side traveling toward Green River Lake) of Holmes Bend RD at the foot of the steep hills, where Holmes Bend Road crosses Butler Creek. Hope that helps. -EW

About: Problems with One Call warnings will be rectified EMD says

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

Sure glad that I read this article. I received the call last night from area code 614 and because I have caller ID - I don't answer calls when I don't recognize the phone number.

The message was only chimes/bells. I thought that was odd. Thanks for clearing up this mystery!

Hey Ed,

A hard working young man tugging on the Ol' Sweet Gum. Sweet Gum has a beautiful star-shaped leaf and usually grows in wet low lying areas that may or may not be well drained.
