Sen. McConnell to speak in Columbia, KY on Mon., Oct. 20, 2008

United States Senator Mitch McConnell will visit and speak in Columbia, KY, at 1:00pmCT, on Monday, October 20, 2008.

Senator McConnell will be here as part of his re-election campaign's motorcade through South Central Kentucky.

McConnell, the Republican nominee, is Kentucky's senior Senator and the minority leader of the United States Senate.

McConnell faces Democratic challenger Bruce Lunsford in the Tuesday, November 4, 2008 general election.

Adair County High School football wins at home!

Adair County High School Football defeated Barren County High School of Glasgow, KY, by a score of 28-21 on Friday, October 17, 2008.

The win for the Indians came on Homecoming night. The Trojan's, coming into the game with a record of 2-5, rallied late in the fourth quarter, but were stopped by an interception from Senior Brad Moore.

The interception gave the ball back the Adair County with 16 seconds left in the game, giving the Indians their first win at home for the season.
The win gives the Indians a record of 2-4 as they travel to Hart County next week. Go Indians!

Pickett's Chapel UMC supper, auction, Sat. Nov. 1, 2008

Pickett's Chapel United Methodist Church will hold a soup, chili, & bean supper and fundraising auction on Saturday, November 1, 2008, with the meal starting at 5:00pm and the auction at 6:00pmCT. CWC Fall Festival is Friday, October 24, 2008

PRIDE Fall Clean-up starts: 8:00amCT, Sat. Oct. 18, 2008

Day will offer opportunity to earn money, get t-shirts, have chances at hundreds of dollars in prizes, start the day with a free breakfast participate in a huge picnic at Pinewood Country Club after the work. Saturday morning, October 18, at 8:00amCT, Adair Countians will gather at the Adair Annex basement for the kick-off of the joint Adair County-City of Columbia Fall PRIDE clean-up.County Judge Ann Melton has built this day into one of the biggest celebrations of the year. Not only will the county get a hard-hitting clean-up with over 200 volunteers expected, but volunteers will get a breakfast, free t-shirts, which will be capped by a big Adair County Picnic at Pinewood Country Club, with another free meal, awards, and hundreds of dollars of cash, merchandise, and gift certificate prizes.

One of these awards is given annually by the Kentucky Division of Family Resource/Youth Service Centers and the Cabinet for Health and Family Services in three categories: Family Resource Center, Family Resource/Youth Service Center, and Youth Service Center.

Mrs. Burton was member of Trinity United Methodist Church and of a very large, respected northeastern Adair County family

Beatrice Burton, 92, a resident of Summit Manor Health & Rehab, died Friday, October 17, 2008, at 8:15amCT, at Taylor Regional Hospital in Campbellsville, KY.

The funeral service will be Sunday, October 19, 2008, at 2:00pmCT, at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home, 200 Campbellsville ST, Columbia, KY, with Rev. Garry Jones officiating. Burial will be in Haven Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be after 5:00pmCT, Saturday, October 18, 2008, at the funeral home.

The Chamber is planning a Christmas flyer that will be distributed throughout the area.

Obituary: Tasha Pelston, 17

Tasha was in her junior year at Adair County High School and was a member of the school's FFA. She is remembered as a quiet student with a pretty smile, who was always working to help others. Principal interrupts classes at her school to deliver sad news to her classmates. Special Memorial Fund established at Indian Trust Bank in her memory.

Tasha Pelston, 17, 639 Cane Valley Road, Columbia, KY, pased away Thursday, October 16, at 8:38pm, at the Taylor Regional Hospital in Campbellsville, KY, of injuries received earlier in a motor vehicle accident on State Park Road in Columbia, KY.

The funeral service will be Sunday, October 19, 2008, at 2:00pmCT, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg ST, Columbia, KY, with Bro. Lonny Karnes the officiating clergy. The family requests visitation after 4:00pm on Saturday, October 18, 2008, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Coomer Cemetery at Breeding, KY.

ROBT. FRITZ MURDER CASE: Victim was father of boy

There is an update to the story of the 17 year old Metcalfe boy reported ths morning:
The 17 year old juvenile has been identified as the victim's son. There is no clear indication as to the motive at this time. A blunt instrument, believed to be the weapon, was recovered by investigators.

The incident occured at 240 Neeper Road, 3 miles south of Edmonton, KY in MetcalfeCounty. All 3 persons, the victim, accused and Jeannie K. Stewart were living at the residence. Jeannie K. Stewart was staying at the residence as a result of losing her home to a recent fire. It is unclear as to her relationship with the victim or accused but she was not related.

Metcalfe youth arrested on murder charges; lodged at AYDC

Body of Robert H. Fritz, Edmonton, KY, found by KSP Post 15 troopers. As yet unnamed 17 year old Metcalfe County youth arrested and charged with murder, numerous other charges and placed in maximum security Adair Youth Development Center in Columbia, KY. Detective Kevin Hunt continues investigation

Kentucky State Police Post 15was contacted Thursday, October 16, 2008, at 8:08pmCT, by the Edmonton Police Department. They advised they had received a call from a female in Indiana stating that her mother, 43 year old Jeannie K. Stewart, was beingheld hostage by a 17 year old juvenile neighbor and that he had beaten his father to death.

Former Lindsey Wilson Blue Raiders Play on ESPN2

COLUMBIA, KY -- A pair of former Lindsey Wilson College men's soccer student-athletes were on display to a national audience on Thursday night at RFK Stadium in Washington DC.

New England Revolution's Kheli Dube and D.C. United's Boyzzz Khumalo played in Major League Soccer's Primetime Thursday on ESPN2. D.C. United scored a pair of unanswered goals to win 2-1.

Sixteen year old Columbian dies as result of State Park Rd. crash

One person died and two other occupants were injured as the result of a crash caused by a rainslick roadway, at 3:00pmCT, today, Thursday, October 15, 2008. The accident occurred 2 miles south of Columbia on State Park Road.

Tasha Pelston, 16, Columbia, KY, a passenger, died as a result of injuries she sustained in the accident. She was prounounced deceased at the Taylor County Hospital in Campbellsville by Taylor County Hospital.
