Hey Band Mom, I need your help

When the Adair County Band hits the road, the convoy is as disciplined and as organized as a military convoy or relief group headed to a disaster. Being a Band Parent offers a special inclusiveness, a membership in a group which this self-described "newb" gets emotional about

By Shamarie Claiborne, Band Mom

At the South Central Marching Band Classic in Glasgow last night, wewere talking about what we'd miss after our years as band parents areover, after our kids graduated.

Winston Keltner put it best last night. "I will miss the fellowship!"

Comments on photo: Together in our hearts

About: "Together in our hearts," photo by Melissa Taylor

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

Melissa, of all the photos that I see on CM this one has really made me stop and think. The emotion that you can see in her eyes and the longing of being a mother and not having your child with you; but in the same aspect she is serving her country and protecting each of us.The use of colors in the clouds, the child as if she is looking at her mom, and the American flag really pulls it all together. Outstanding work.

Big Rig Sports: Braves baseball not as exciting as Cubs Nation

Seeing where Hank Aaron hit record smashing home a thrill, and Turner Field is a great park, but after trucking to Wrigley Field, Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati, and the home of the Braves, Sports Writer Trucker Allen Owens' unbiased opinion is that there is more electricity at Wrigley Field than anywhere he's been

ColumbiaMagazine.com SPORTS

By Allen Owens, Big Rig Big League sports writerThis past Wednesday, September 10, 2008, I arrived in Atlanta at about 6:15pm. I checked the schedule and sure enough the Atlanta Braves were at home against the Colorado Rockies.

Game time was at 7:10pm. I checked in at the receiver, and to my delight, I was not going to be unloaded until the next morning at 8:00am. I asked the receiver if I could drop my trailer, to go to the Braves game. The receiver said sure.

Rivermen of the Cumberland: Chapter 4

By Chris Bennett

Chapter 4: "Day two, Burkesville to Cordell Hull"

At about 4:15 am the eastern sky began to fill itself with beautiful color. The morning was really foggy and cool. I hollered and told Neal to get up, "cause were burning daylight". He didn't want to get up, but after some loud and graphic coaxing, and throwing a few rocks at his tent; he started packing up his gear.

It was Sunday June 3rd and I was a man on a mission. I wanted to reach Celina Tennessee with enough time to do some "trout fishing" in the Obey River before nightfall. The Obey River flows from Dale Hollow Lake Dam, and meets the Cumberland River near Celina at river mile 381. The Cold waters that flows from the Dam into this stretch of the Cumberland is supposed to be one of the best Trout fisheries in Tennessee.

'Nigh Perfect Food!

A couple of weeks ago I motored with a friend to Nashville for a noontime appointment. The meeting was slap dab on time and was over in a trice. Both of us were a bit on the hungry side.

For several years I had been aiming to find the Loveless Cafe, and this seemed as good a time as any.
