KYTC official to visit Russell Springs Thursday, 3 Oct

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) Commissioner Gray Tomblyn II plans to be in Russell Springs on at 1:30pmCT on Thursday, October 3 at City Hall, 487 Main St., Russell Springs, KY, to make another transportation funding announcement.

Tomblyn last visited Russell Co. in July to announce $313K for the KY 910/KY 76 realignment.

Hollaender to locate first Kentucky operation in Somerset

Frankfort, KY - Handrail manufacturer Hollaender Manufacturing Co. plans to set up an operation in Somerset with a $667,000 investment expected to create up to 16 full-time jobs, Gov. Matt Bevin announced today.

Hollaender leadership selected a 12,000-square-foot facility in Somerset for its new location in an effort to better serve existing and future customers. The company will manufacture its line of Speed-Rail(R) mechanical fittings at the location. Hollaender's investment is expected to cover the cost of new equipment to meet current production requirements. The facility also provides the opportunity for future growth based on increased customer demand.

Cleo Thornton, 96, Adair Co., KY native (1923-2019)

Cleo Harden Thornton of Campbellsville, Kentucky, formerly of the Egypt community in Adair County, died Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2019 at 4:15 P.M. at Taylor Regional Hospital in Campbellsville. She was 96 years old.

The funeral service will be held on Monday, October 7, 2019, at NoonCT at Eunice Church of God, 12515 Liberty Road, Columbia, KY, with Bishop Raymond Ross delivering the Eulogy. Burial will follow in Haven Hill Cemetery.

Visitation is requested after 10amCT on Monday at the Church.

LWC ISP visits International Festival in Bowling Green

On Saturday, September 28, 2019, the International Student Programs and United Nations Club went to the Cirquis Square Park in Bowling Green, KY, for their 29th Annual Bowling Green International Festival--A celebration of diversity for the entire family.

There were a variety of booths filled with food, antiques, jewelry, clothes, and more, and all the students had the opportunity to walk around and explore. There were also several performances put on by several different countries.

Our students said they thoroughly enjoyed the festival, but I think after an hour or so, everyone was ready to leave because it was very hot.

LC Soccer opens conference play at Georgetown tonight

Adair County Emergency Management Director Mike Keltner and Adair County Judge Executive Gale Cowan would like to thank The Appliance Store for the generous refrigerator donation to be utilized in the Backup Emergency Operations Center (EOC).

The Adair Co. EM Backup EOC serves as a point for responders (many volunteer) to coordinate efforts during emergencies and train before emergencies occur.

The Breeding Area Volunteer Fire Department invites everyone to their chili supper and auction Saturday, October 5, 2019 at 4pmCT.

Children six and under eat free. $7 includes chili, hot dog, dessert and drink. The auction Will begin at 5:30pm.

Hoover won't seek reelection

Representative Jeff Hoover (R-Jamestown) has announced that he won't seek reelection next year. According to multiple news articles, the former Kentucky House Speaker plans to focus on his law practice instead.

Hoover, who has represented the 83rd district since 1996, became the first Republican Speaker of the House in Kentucky in nearly 100 years when he took over the post after the 2016 election. He resigned the post in November 2017.

Chicken thieves in the Big Windy neighborhood had better be careful or they will carry off a pound or two of shot. Parties in that neighborhood know pretty well who they are, and are tired of their pilfering.

Deputy Collector Nell went into the Big Windy section last Sunday. He found and emptied a number of gallons of illicit whiskey. The man who manufactured the stuff was not at his place of business. [1902]

CPD: Contraband at Adair Regional Jail

On Tuesday, October 1, 2019, officers were asked to respond to Adair Regional Jail shortly before 2amCT, after an inmate who was being booked in from Cumberland County was found to have concealed contraband.

A party was being searched as part of the booking process when a Deputy Jailer located a clear plastic baggie which contained a white crystal substance the individual had been concealing.

LWC Volleyball falls to Georgetown in straight sets 3-0

Georgetown, KY - The No. 10-ranked Lindsey Wilson volleyball team was upset in straight sets to Mid-South Conference competitor Georgetown (Ky.) 3-0 on Tuesday night. The loss moves the Blue Raiders to 13-4 overall and 5-2 in the MSC.

The Blue Raiders struggled to find their rhythm all night as Georgetown out hit LWC .413 to .158 as the Tigers also produced 48 kills to Lindsey Wilson's 37. Errors also played a significant role in the result as Georgetown forced LWC into 21 mistakes while only committing 10 of their own.

We couldn't find an October record high for Adair County, but Green County recorded a high temperature of 98F on October 11, 1913, slightly higher than Tuesday's high temperature of 96.4F.

It's already 66F at 6amCT at the Adair County Mesonet station. Today will be sunny and hot, with a high near 94F. Calm wind becoming west 5 to 8 mph in the afternoon.

Tonight will be mostly clear, with a low around 65F and southwest wind around 6 mph.

Thursday will be sunny and hot again, with a high near 94F and calm wind becoming west 5 to 8 mph in the morning.

Thursday night will be mostly clear and should mark the start of a cooling trend, with a low around 55F. Northwest wind around 7 mph becoming north after midnight. Projected high temperatures will be in the low 80's over the weekend, coming down into the low 70's by next week.
