2018-01-16 - Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com.
Just when I thought the whole world was going to be in black and white for a few days until the snow can melt away, I looked up and discovered this Dogwood tree full of plump Red Robins. It was too cold to stop and chat about the reason for their meeting. -- LW

Robins kicked back in their tree recliners

By Billy Joe Fudge

There are only three things I see Robins doing.
1. Eating worms in warm weather,
2. Trying to get their young'uns who've been pushed out of the nest off the ground before a cat makes a meal out of them and
3. Flocking to Holly trees and devouring the berries particularly during cold, snow covered days.
So, it's cold, the ground is snow covered and I think I can detect a satiated, kicked back in the recliner after a "dinner of Holly berries" look upon every beak. - BJF

Ol' Dave: Shares Hunter & Joyce memory of hardship at UK

Easily 80 below, best he can remember. Laments soft life of students today, (a reminder of the message of one of the late Dr. Steve Aaron's Sermons on the Wall: Suffering builds character. Anyway . . .

Dave Rosenbaum writes:
Hunter I remember that winter at UK. Had an eight o'clock class across campus. Walking down Euclid between Memorial and Stoll Field was brutal. Must have easily been eighty degrees below zero. Today classes are dismissed so that students can stay in their spacious dorms with private baths. Our youth are now a bunch of wimps! --Dave Rosenbaum
