Robert Stone: What must be done today - A word list sonnet

What must be done today: a word list sonnet
Old age is tightly stretching out a rope
on which the young funambulists can dance
but those of scores of years can have no hope
beyond no falls while groping to advance.

Remembering the challenges of youth,
when one could migrate to a safer place,
what must be done today is hard learned truth
that with refreshment booths enhances race.

No consternation shatters sense of calm
when resolutions have been well thought through,
so marchers can push on without a qualm
providing balm to help the world renew.

Good batters who are following the rule
must take uncaring batterers to school.
~ Robert Stone, 14 January 2018

Word list: batter – challenge – consternation – funambulist – grope – hope – march – migrate – push – resolution

And my wife said....Comment on George Rice's Turkey Picture

By the Wayfaring Stranger

Earlier this brisk January morning as I slowly scrolled through the latest reports and photos on CM, my child bride of nigh onto two-score years strolled by as the great George Rice "gathering of the the flock" image appeared on the screen. She paused for a moment, took in the scene depicted, then quipped, "Hon, couldn't your family have found a better weekend for a reunion?"
Mercy me. She certainly has a way with words, now doesn't she? lol. - WF

Charles Marshburn says it doesn't get cold in Columbia

Remembers winter of 1968, in Montana

By Charles Marshburn
Current snowbirding in balmy Gadberry, Adair County, KY

Woke up to -43 degrees in Great Falls, MT.

Before I could go to work at the air base I had to put my car battery in the car. One had to bring it in every night to keep it from freezing and cracking.

I had to unplug my oil heater (?) and heat the door handle with a butane lighter. It doesn't get cold in Columbia!

Good sunny, cold Sunday morning, 14 Jan, 2018

By Linda Waggener

A couple of caring friends "from off" have written to check on Ed and me after hearing weather reports about the area's winter storm and following week of frigid temperatures which we are heading into now.

With all heat sources set to a hopeful 70 degree range, it's still just 61 degrees in the house. That's as far as the heat sources can push it when it's only about two degrees outside in the frozen snow. Our house feels like the ones we grew up in -- first morning toe-touching-carpetless-floor experience was a shocker.

Notes of pity from off and present conditions creating visions of moving to some balmy island "where the weather suits my clothes" (if you know that lyric then I can guess your age), I added several extra layers of clothing and opened the door to go feed the outside animals. The minute I stepped outside my breath blossomed out in front of me.

Some suggestions for worship today written to the congregation

By Bro John Chowning

Due to the combination of cold weather, snow and ice on most side roads, and widespread flu and sickness, we will cancel all Sunday services and activities at Saloma Baptist Church.
Please take this opportunity to study your Sunday School lesson, watch one of the really good services on TV (like Immanuel Baptist in Lexington or Walnut Street Baptist in Louisville), spend some time in Bible Study and prayer, and spend time with family in the warmth and comfort of your home.
