Mark Hale: Regardless of outcome, no need to get upset

'My purpose of this post however is to say that no matter the outcome this is still our county. No matter the outcome we should not get upset if we lose our vote.' - MARK HALE

By Mark Hale
Personal Commentary

I have already commented on my thoughts on this issue so that is not the intent of this post. I wanted to respond briefly to letters written to the local papers.

It seems to me, while this is a most passionate issue from both sides, people are really vocal and somewhat upset that this is even up for a vote.

The yes folks think it should automatically already be available because it's legal elsewhere.

The no folks think since we're already dry it should stay that way. Well, I don't mind saying that my absentee vote was cast Thursday for a no.

My purpose of this post however is to say that no matter the outcome this is still our county. No matter the outcome we should not get upset if we lose our vote.

This process is the absolute best way to settle this matter.

The people of this fine county are the voice on this issue. Everyone that is able to vote needs to make every effort to let their voice be heard through the ballot box. Think of it as the side you are opposed to will be voicing their opinion, it's up to me to cancel their vote out.

I can't think of a more local election and a topic that involves every citizen more than this topic. Your vote will count, IF YOU VOTE.

Friends and neighbors remember regardless the outcome, this will not be the end of our future.

Please don't be consumed with bitterness toward another citizen. If I lose my vote, I will still love Adair Co and the people that call it home.

I will still be proud to call this wonderful place my home. Thank you for your time. - Mark Hale

Jerry Holt: Voting Yes for cleaner roads

Personal Commentary

Jerry Holt writes:
A Yes vote could reduce Beer cans and bottles along the sides of our roads.

I am a bicycle rider, so I get to see the road sides up close. The sides of the roads are covered with beer cans, beer bottles and broken wiskey bottles. The people who drink and drive are just getting rid of the evidence.

I am voting Yes for cleaner roads. - Jerry Holt

Joyce Coomer: I would like some answers

If Yes wins

By Joyce Coomer
Personal commentary

I have called and emailed several people in government the past two or three weeks, trying to get an answer to the following question:

If the voters of Adair County vote for the legal sale of alcoholic beverages, who makes the decision on how those sales will be made? The fiscal court? The city council? Or will such decision default to the laws of the State of Kentucky?

KY Afield Outdoors: Ponds, small lakes better for early fishing

By Lee McClellan

Frankfort, KY - When air temperatures crest the 70-degree mark for the first time in March, anglers swarm reservoirs and state-owned lakes to fish. The warm weather stirs up high expectations, but these anglers often return home frustrated after a fishless day.

These big waters still retain their winter cold and a few days of shirt-sleeve weather doesn't warm them up enough to get largemouth bass, bluegill or catfish active. They still feel the lethargy of winter.

Farm ponds and small lakes less than 10 acres are the perfect antidote for this situation. Their small size and relatively shallow waters warm up quicker in spring than large reservoirs sprawling over thousands of acres or state-owned lakes several hundred acres in size.
