I am proud of what is going on in this community, I see very positive outcomes if the county does indeed go wet. - Derek Nickel

By Derek Nickel
Personal commentary

Over the last few weeks I have heard multiple debates on this issue of the county going wet or staying dry.

Though my opinion is one sided, I still think the opinions of all that have shared have been eloquent and valid points.

My personal hope is that this county move forward and truly progress with the legal sales of alcohol. A couple of points I believe to be worth while are:

Adair County Fiscal Court 12 Jan 2016 - Report

Court passes raise, but it's called "laughable" by private citizen. County Judge says he was told by State Auditors that he must turn in expenses ordinarily charged to the county, and which he has not done in his first year in office. Court argues, but comes to no conclusion, on issue of Deputy CJE, CFO, and Road Foreman being classified as hourly or salaried employees.
This is one of several stories on the court meeting which will be posted today, with links along the way

By Ed Waggener

Last night's regular session of Adair Fiscal Court was long, lasting over two and one-half hours, lively, and held some surprising moments.

The court approved a 30-cent-per-hour raise, across the board for hourly workers. Criticism, though, of the tiny raise, came not from employees, nor were there protests from the no-taxes-no-time-no-way-never-ever folks. This time it was from citizens in the gallery who appreciate all the services the county renders. Ken Edwards, an Adair Countian who was formerly a county worker in Florida, was the first to speak out, telling the court that the raise was laughable. "If you are going to keep good employees, keep your good people in the county," he said, "You're going to have to pay them."

Pulaski Countian writes why he's glad his county went wet

Wet/Dry: 'Money makes the difference,' (in favor of going wet) Arnold Denney says, 'Plus it gives government a better handle on controlling sales.'
Comments re article 80099 Paula Curry Why is it wrong for bootleggers right for county

By Arnold Denney
Personal commentary

It's a matter of money, plus provides a safer way to keep alcohol sales away from those who, as has been established by statute, are considered too young to be allowed alcohol.

There are some who will publicly oppose this "legal" avenue who imbibe themselves, but they will either drive out of county to purchase or purchase while out of town for one reason or another.

Poetry by Billy Joe Fudge: On learning the truth of that

On learning the truth of that: How Bliss got its name
By Billy Joe Fudge
Mike Watson, you're the "cat's meow" with this discovery
Of how Bliss got it's name.

I've for decades carried visions in my mind of pioneers
Who had labored in their travels from the East along creeks, rivers
And over mountains,
Then through rocky, wooded passes to finally stumble o'er Pettit's Fork Hill
To find Bliss in the shallow dell beyond.
But alas, my romantic imaginings waxed in error.
Yet,
I find comfort in the truth and for that,
For that,
I thank you. - Billy Joe Fudge
