Pulaski Countian writes why he's glad his county went wet Wet/Dry: 'Money makes the difference,' (in favor of going wet) Arnold Denney says, 'Plus it gives government a better handle on controlling sales.' Comments re article 80099 Paula Curry Why is it wrong for bootleggers right for county By Arnold Denney Personal commentary It's a matter of money, plus provides a safer way to keep alcohol sales away from those who, as has been established by statute, are considered too young to be allowed alcohol. There are some who will publicly oppose this "legal" avenue who imbibe themselves, but they will either drive out of county to purchase or purchase while out of town for one reason or another. I see no more "drunkenness" in the Somerset area than has always existed, but the extra revenue has provided quite a steroidal shot into the local tax coffers. All the horror stories have failed to prove true, because there seems to always be a portion of the citizenry who use alcohol with meals, with get togethers type entertainment, and I never read anything about bar brawls. Perhaps I'm too insulated and blinded to see these things, but I have not seen a down side to the area and other counties aren't getting the tax money and bootleggers are not as much sought after as was previously. It's the money that makes the difference, plus it gives government a better handle on controlling sales. --Arnold Denney This story was posted on 2016-01-13 05:10:42
