Martha Ann Revis Collier, 74, Adair Co., KY (1941-2015)

She a member of an old line, highly regarded Adair County family and spent her childhood and high school years in Adair County. She was the daughter of the late George Dewey Revis and Mildred Grant Revis. Her husband of 52 years, Bob Collier, survives, along with five children and their families and a brother, David Revis, Campbellsville, KY, and a sister Marilyn McGowan, of Columbia, KY.

She attended Rowena Holiness Church in Russell County and was a housewife. She was a native of Fairplay, KY and a resident of Columbia, KY, at the time of her death. She was the daughter of Lewis Elmer & Mary Lizzie (Keith) Keith and the widow of Ernest L. Corbin. She leaves 15 direct living descendants.

Effie Tyra Oliver, 80, Eli, Russell Co., KY (1935-2015)

She was a homemaker and a member of Paducah Avenue Baptist Church in Hamilton, Ohio. She was a native of Jackson County, KY, and a resident of Russell County, KY at the time of her death. She was the daughter of the late Godfrey & Mafrey Lainhart Tyra. Her husband Enoch Oliver, Russell Springs, KY, survives. She leaves nine direct living descendants.

Freshman Class at ACHS wins 1st 3 months attendance award

Improving attendance is a focus of Adair County High School throughout this school year. Incentives are being planned as we move forward.

On Thursday, November 12, 2015, we hosted our first incentive award for the highest attendance thus far.

Our Freshman Class had the highest attendance rate with 94.45% in attendance for the first three months of school and was rewarded with some time to "Sharpen Their Saws" during an Ice Cream Social.

We would like all parents and guardians to please encourage your children to attend school each day. They are the most important piece to the education puzzle.

Six hundred forty-two shoeboxes collected to help give children in developing countries a merry Christmas

COLUMBIA, KY - The Lindsey Wilson College athletic teams showed a lot of Christmas spirit Tuesday.

Members of the college's athletics teams recently collected 642 shoeboxes of gifts that will be sent to children in developing countries during the Christmas season. The LWC shoeboxes collected for Operation Christmas Child included toys, school supplies and personal hygiene items. Many of the shoeboxes also included notes and letters from LWC students.

CMS, CHS receive donations for Angel Tree program

Campbellsville, KY, Independent Schools

Campbellsville middle and high schools recently received donations that will make Christmas a bit brighter this year.

Pitman Masonic Lodge #124 F&AM members in Campbellsville donated $150 each to CMS and CHS.

The money will be used toward the schools' Angel Tree programs.

School officials said they appreciate the donations, and they will help students have a wonderful Christmas.

The last sentence states the band has won 21 AAA titles since 1986. While the band has won 21 titles, it has been in various classes (A, AA, AAA). Needless to say, whichever class the band has been in, it has been the standard bearer. - Chadwick Collins

Otha (Littlen) Carmon, Clementsville, KY (1932-2015)

He was a native of Casey County, KY and was a resident at the time of his death. He was the son of the late James and Alma Clements Carmon, and the widower of Ada Mae Carmon. He was a timber cutter and sawmill worker. Littlen was a member of the St. Bernard Catholic Church. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Littlen was also known as the "Mayor" of Clementsville

Scam alert: Local schools being falsely used by phone salesmen

A company is alleged to be selling advertisement to individuals and businesses in our region, claiming that Adair County Schools will benefit from the money generated from advertising sales.

Alan Reed, Superintendent, said, "From information I have received from neighboring districts, this company never follows through with the ad, nor would Adair County Schools receive any proceeds. I am alerting everyone to watch out for yet another scam. I would appreciate a call if anyone out there receives a call like this.

CMS football players make all-star teams

Campbellsville Middle School (CMS) football players were recently named to all-star teams. Eighth-graders Matthew Oliver, Braden Paige and Lathan Cubit and seventh-grader Clark Kidwell were named to the Kentucky Middle School Football Association west all-star team.

Paige will play fullback, Oliver will play wide receiver, Cubit is defensive back and Kidwell will play defensive end/linebacker.
