The Beshear Years: Administration investments in Adair County

County transportation projects total $49 million, $2 million in agriculture funding

Gov. Steve Beshear's Communications Office

Throughout his administration, Gov. Steve Beshear has worked with local communities, like Adair County, to increase job creation, raise education standards and support healthy, vibrant families to strengthen the quality of life across the Commonwealth.

In Adair County, he has made lasting investments that will benefit generations to come, including $49 million in transportation projects, $2 million in agriculture funding and nearly $2.7 million in community development projects.

"When I took office as Governor in 2007, Kentuckians had lost faith in their government and a global recession was taking away jobs, homes and health care," Gov. Beshear said. "Today, thanks to our partnership with a lot of people, including the citizens and officials of Adair County, Kentucky's economy is setting records, and our families are again getting high return on the money and trust they invest in their leaders."

KY Afield Outdoors: The fly and rind, an old school combo

By Lee McClellan

Frankfort, KY - The swim jig and the swimming retrieve are now mainstays for trophy largemouth from heavy cover or weeds. They also shine for catching suspended largemouth bass in clear lakes.

Anglers fishing the world class smallmouth reservoirs in Kentucky and Tennessee fished a swim jig for decades, but they called it the fly and rind.

A fly in Montana means a lure for trout; a fly in Kentucky and Tennessee means a hair jig, made from tying bucktail, rabbit fur or synthetic craft fur onto the shank of a lead-head jig. The rind is a pork chunk trailer, a nearly forgotten staple of jig fishing for bass.

"With a hair jig, you get a small profile, which smallmouths in reservoirs like Dale Hollow prefer, especially in late fall, winter and early spring," said Chad Miles, administrative director of the Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Foundation.
