Henrietta Scott: Excluding art in career pathways is ridiculous

'I would like to point out that Adair County has an amazing number of its former students that are engaged in careers in the arts. These include: Fine art, graphic design, animation, film, architecture, landscape architecture, CAD design and interior design.' - HENRIETTA SCOTT

Personal commentary

In my 31 years of teaching, I saw some very gifted students graduate from Adair County High School and go on to pursue careers in the arts.

Too often we think of art as being only recreational.

BJF: Why are we drawn to ruins - Their Home

A fitting poem found in the catalog of poet Billy Joe Fudge, submitted as befitting: Comments re photo 62812 Why are we drawn to ruins

By Billy Joe Fudge
I think the answer to your age-old question is explained nicely by "Their Home." I was inspired several years ago to allow "Their Home" to tell his story in that, although he may look like a ruins, in reality he is not.

Poetry by Robert Stone: Others in their need

Others in their need
a sonnet for the birthday of Meigie Mabry: 25 October 2015
No less than newborn babe needs soothing touch
the dying need to know familiar hand.
The feet that hardened life will test so much
the caring soften for the final stand.

No more than what was given from the heart
at last remains to comfort in old age.
The eye that sparkling overflowed with art
within the overwhelmed sees perfect stage.

When all the chains society sets fast
are broken by lost time and circumstance,
the wonders of the future and the past
remain secure in sure artistic glance.

The times we reached to others in their need
at last are all we have our souls to feed.
~ Robert Stone, 25 October 2015

Don't say MF at the dinner table in front of 91-year-old mom

By Linda Waggener

There were three groups lunching about a dozen feet apart. Mom and I represented one of the groups. Across the way, two women lunched at another table and in the corner were three booths of men in work clothes who looked like they were just in off the job.

The men, over enormous plates of fried chicken with all the fixins, were sharing stories and experiences back and forth that resulted in frequent uproarious laughter.

Christmas Again

It's coming Christmas. Echoes of my favorite carol are coursing through the foggy synapses of my brain.
Angels we have heard on high
Telling us go out and buy!
We have got through "Black Friday" and cyber Monday. Now it is time to get really serious about harking to the angels' cry.
