City of Columbia lowers ad valorem tax rate

In addition to hearing a detailed report by Mary Ann Loy on specific, immediate needs for better sidewalks in Columbia and the appointment of two members of City Council, Charles Grimsley and Linda Waggener to develop plans to implement the program - in addition to that the city voted to lower, by a bit, from .2675 cents per $100 of valuation to .2600 cents per $100 of valuation. The ordinance adoping the lower tax rate, recommended with pride by Mayor Curtis hardwick, was given a second and final reading and, on a motion by Crag Dean, with a second by Mark Harris, the council voted unanimously to adopt it. With Council Members Ron Rogers, Charles Grimsley, Craig Lasley and Linda Waggener joining in the affirmative. Sidewalks/Crosswalks get full discussion, action by council The Columbia City Council took care of regular business on the agenda in the first ten minutes of Tuesday night's hour long meeting. With no Citizen comments, the rest of the meeting was devoted to improvement of city sidewalks and crosswalks.
