City of Columbia lowers ad valorem tax rate

There was some really good news at City Council last night. In addition to hearing a detailed report by Mary Ann Loy on specific, immediate needs for better sidewalks in Columbia and the appointment of two members of City Council, Charles Grimsley and Linda Waggener to develop plans to implement the program - in addition to that the city voted to lower, by a bit, from .2675 cents per $100 of valuation to .2600 cents per $100 of valuation.

The ordinance adoping the lower tax rate, recommended with pride by Mayor Curtis hardwick, was given a second and final reading and, on a motion by Crag Dean, with a second by Mark Harris, the council voted unanimously to adopt it. With Council Members Ron Rogers, Charles Grimsley, Craig Lasley and Linda Waggener joining in the affirmative.



Council gives second reading to an ordinance adopting KY Building Code

The Council voted unanimously, on the recommendation of Mayor Hardwick, with a motion by Mark Harris, a second by Ron Rogers to adopt a the Building Inspection Code and a fee schedule which doubles the fees for most inspections. The fees are retroactive to April 1, 2015.


Barry Loy re-appointed to Property Maintenance Appeals Board

The council unanimously approved Mayor Hardwick's recommendation to re-appoint Barry Loy to the Property Maintenance Appeals Board, with a term expiring August 5, 2017. The unanimous vote to approve came on a motion by Ron Rogers, with a second by Mark Harris.

Woody Sharpe re-appointed to Property Maintenance Appeals Board

The council unanimously approved Mayor Hardwick's recommendation to re-appoint Woody Sharpe to the Property Maintenance Appeals Board, with a term expiring August 5, 2017. The vote to approve came on a motion by Charles Grimsley with a second by Craig Lasley.

Sheila Hare re-appointed to Property Maintenance Appeals Board

The council unanimously approved Mayor Hardwick's recommendation to re-appoint Sheila Hare to the Property Maintenance Appeals Board, with a term expiring August 5, 2017. The unanimous vote to approve came on a motion by Ron Rogers, with a second by Charles Grimsley.

Minutes approved

The council, on a motion by Mayor Mark Harris, with a second by Charles Grimsley, approved the minutes of the August 1, 2015 regular meeting.

The Council adjourned on a motion by Craig Lasley, with a second by Mark Harris.
