Jon Halsey: What the heck happened here

Comments re article 76201 Bids for Burkesville Street Water Project opened Jon Halsey writes:
Can somebody explain in plain language without regard to "potential embarrassment and/or hurt feelings," just what the heck happened here? -Jon Halsey
Thanks for the question: Everyone deserves an answer to your question. But please be patient just a little while longer. We're trying to get to the bottom of things, too. There's a good chance the issues will be coming to a proper showdown in the next little bit. It's imporant, after all, the water company has been, may still be the crown jewel of Adair County's assets. - EW

Poetry by Billy Joe Fudge: As or ahould be . . .

As it should be , , ,
By Billy Joe Fudge
Melancholy floods my soul
Sitting on the porch at dusk.
The birds have ceased to chirp
In the dark recesses

Of leafy crowns.
And silence,
Almost,
Slips beneath
The webbed arms of Gray Bats.
Gray Bats dining upon nocturnal,
Unseen, and unnumbered flyers
Who'll never see the light of day,
Again.
Shadowy images traverse the
Lower heavenlies,
Drifting, ever drifting
Above a still and yawning,
Earth.
Like giant,
Giant camera shutters
They slowly allows stars
And planets to peek
Through lenses both small and
Large,
To imprint upon my dozing
And nodding consciousness.
Day, to dusk, to night;
As it should be.
An earthly order,
Ordered from the Heavens,
As it should be...

The policies have worked well for our school district, she says

Marsha Walker writes:
I'm curious to know how other people in the city/county feel about the lack of nepotism policies in our city and county governments. I think a lot of problems would be avoided if they were in place. I think they work well for our school district.

Please share your ideas. - Marsha Walker

Letter: Grant money should have stayed in Adair County

Elmer J. George writes:
If the Stotts contract had been honored the Columbia-Adair county grant money would have remained in Adair County; entered the Adair County dollar cycle; worked Adair County residents. Now additional and unnecessary expenses will be incurred. Adair County will lose out because of an ill-advised decision. The wrongful decision to cut a hometown company out reeks of bad odor and the decision-makers know why!!! -- Elmer J. George, Attorney-at-Law, Lebanon, KY

Bids for Burkesville Street Water Project opened

Yet another action of the CAUD overseers is resulting in not only delays, but added costs. Costs for Burkesville Street project appears to have an added cost of at least $111,374.50 more than the original change order approved for Stotts Construction, but completion will be at least six months later. Additional costs for legal fees and other expenses related to the disputed decision to rescind the contract with the local contractor will likely add even more to the costs.

KY Afield Outdoors: Trail cameras are windows into the woods

By Kevin Kelly

Frankfort, KY - A few paces inside a tree line that borders an open field thick with chest-high grass lies a tangle of narrow, sun-dappled game trails just a stone's throw from the Kentucky River below. Bo Spencer knows deer, turkey, raccoon and the occasional bobcat travel these thoroughfares because a trail camera he set up to photograph the spot has captured images of them.

He's returned this morning to swap out the SD card, replace the batteries and see that the unit is operating properly before moving on to do the same with trail cameras deployed elsewhere on his family's central Kentucky farm.

"You can't spend 24 hours a day in the woods when you work and have family obligations but the camera can," said Spencer, an information specialist with the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources. "You can see what's there that you don't get to see."

By CHRIS HARRIS Commonwealth Journal*

SOMERSET, KY. - There are few lawmakers walking the streets of Washington D.C. today more qualified than Sen. Mitch McConnell to talk about one of Somerset's favorite sons, the late Sen. John Sherman Cooper.

It's not just that he holds the same type of office, from the same Republican Party, from the same state. McConnell was an intern of Cooper's in his early days climbing the political ladder, and knew Cooper not just as a politician, but as a man.
