Dorothy Murrell Durham, 78, Casey Co., KY (1936-2015)

Dorothy Murrell Durham passed away Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at the Liberty Care Center. She was 78 years old.

Funeral services are 11amET Saturday, July 4, 2015 at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home, 752 Campbellsville St, Liberty, KY, with Bro. Kevin Pittman officiating. Burial will follow in Middleburg Cemetery. Visitation is Friday, July 3, 2015 at the funeral home from 5-9pmET.


Born October 4, 1936 in Lincoln County, KY, Dorothy Murrell Durham was the daughter of the late James Carroll Smith and Lizzie Dow Lucas Smith. She was a member of the Grove Ridge Baptist Church and a former employee of Cowden's Manufacturing Company. Murrell was a dedicated homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Murrell held to a strong Christian faith and was an inspiration to all.

Survivors include:
  • Her husband of sixty years, Charles Ray Durham, Sr.,whom she married December 24, 1954;
  • A son, Charles (and Sandy) Durham Jr. of Lincoln County;
  • Two daughters, Kathy Ann (and Ronald) Napier of Grove Ridge and Janet Carol (and Leon) Wesley of Willow Springs;
  • Four grandchildren, Amy Napier Wood, Amanda Napier, Darrin Wesley and Cheyene Durham;
  • Seven great-grandchildren, Hannah, Kelsey, Gage, Bella, Laura, Brayden, and Braxton;
  • Two sisters, Francis Russell of Junction City and Shirlie Coleman of Fairfield, Ohio;
  • Two special friends, Molly Vaughn of Liberty and Verna Robinson of Stanford.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by four sisters, Audrey Gifford, Margie Gifford, Maxine Lane, and Edith Gaddis; and a three brothers, Harold Smith, James Cleo Smith, and George William Smith.

Pallbearers are Leon and Darrin Wesley, Ronald Napier, Jerry Randolph, Paul Strickland, and Johnny Mack Brown.
