Beach at Smith Ridge temporarily closed because of E coli levels

Smith's Ridge Beach on Green River Lake is currently closed because of E Coli.

By Lori Brewster
Forwarded by Larry Smith, The Wave 92.7 and the Big Dawg 99.9 FM

Campbellsville, KY - The US Army Corps of Engineers at Green River Lake has temporarily closed the beach located at the Smith Ridge Recreation Area due to high levels of E. Coli bacteria.

The Corps of Engineers samples water from three of its beaches: Smith Ridge, Pikes Ridge, and Holmes Bend on a weekly basis. Smith Ridge beach is the only beach currently experiencing the E. Coli contamination. Holmes Bend and Pikes Ridge beaches had acceptable test results. The source of the E. Coli is unknown at this time but continuous monitoring of the beaches will take place. Once the levels of the bacteria drop to a safe level, the beach will reopen.

RRW: Great - if interest in local government matched Countdown

Ralph Waggener writes:
If we could get the interest in our local government that has been shown on school countdown, that would be great!

Read or don't read, it's your choice and there are several items on CM that I just don't read. Most items on CM I do read and enjoy. How can something so simple as the posting of school countdown garner so much attention when very important issues go with no comment? Thanks for all you and Linda and CM do for this Adair county and the surrounding counties
Your much younger brother, Ralph Roy Waggener
Thanks, for the kind comments, and a very good point you make - Wonder why the priorities aren't on the big issues: 1) The Hospital Crisis. 2) The growing problems at Columbia/Adair County Utilities District, 3) Merger and Effective, Efficient and Economical government. It's always a puzzle to me, too. - EW

Hearing at 9:30amCT in contested Mayoral election

In Adair Circuit Court

Attorneys Elmer J. George and Jonathan R. Spalding have entered a motion in Adair Circuit Court scheduled for 9:30amCT, this morning, Tuesday, June 23, 2015, in Adair Circuit Court, Adair Judicial Building, 201 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY, which requests that Judge Judy Vance order that Mayor Curtis Hardwick be prohibited from conducting himself as Mayor of Columbia, giving the following grounds:
- "This Court previously heldthat the election conducted on November 4, 2015, was void.
- "Since said election was determined to be void and CHurtis Hardwick neither appealed said decision nor filed a Supersedeas Bond, he is not entitled to continue to hold the Mayoral Seat of the City of Columbia
- "Curtis Hardwick acts as Mayor of Columbia are void and Curtis Hardwick is endangering the City of Columbia by continuing to act as Mayor."
The case is also now before the Kentucky Court of Appeals, which has not yet posted a date for a hearing. The appeal was filed by the Adair County Board of Elections, which, Attorneys George and Spalding say, in a brief filed for Appellees, Ben Arnold, et al, that the Adair County Board of Elections has no standing in the case, stating that neither the City of Columbia nor Curtis Hardwick filed an appeal.
