Industrial hemp seeds finally arrive in Frankfort, KY

FRANKFORT, KY - The industrial hemp seeds ticketed for pilot research programs in Kentucky finally made it to the state Department of Agriculture headquarters in Frankfort today after being held in Louisville for weeks by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials at the direction of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.

She was a native of Barren County, KY, and a resident of Mt. Sherman, KY at the time of her death. She was the daughter of the late Houston Estes and Mattie Wright Estes. She leaves 13 direct living descendants. She had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Dezarn Chapel and was a homemaker.

LCADD HQ, Russell Springs, KY, named the Pat Bell Building

New name announced in ceremony Thursday at the Lake Cumberland Area Development District (LCADD) in Russell Springs, KY preceding regular meeting. It's the second public building named for the Columbia, Kentuckian who has become a symbol of regionalism in South Central Kentucky. Letters read from Senator Mitch McConnell, US Congressman Hal Rogers, State Senator Sara Beth Gregory, and from John Chowning. Chowning praised Bell for his vision and work in the Appalachian region encouraging cities and counties to work together across geographic and political boundaries

The board at Lake Cumberland Area Development District honored Columbian Patrick Bell, its first executive director, by naming the Russell Springs office building the Pat Bell Building in a ceremony preceding the full board meeting on May 22, 2014.

The building's new letters were unveiled by Patrick Bell's two children, Rob Collins Bell, Campbellsville, KY, and Jennifer S. Bell, Lexington, KY.

She was a member of a highly regarded Russell County family. She was the daughter of the late Cosby & Golda Meece Cooper. Her husband, Bro. Louis Shepherd, survives. She leaves seven direct living descendants. She was a retired teacher and a member of Friendship Baptist Church.

Last week, the ADAIR Band held their annual awards banquet at Lindsey Wilson College. It was a great night with tons of laughter, friendship, and even a few tears. Each year, the seniors, are seated at a special table of honor, in recognition of their dedication and hard work through the years. This year was no different and a great time was had by all.

Edmonton road race raises over $5,000 for Capps scholarship

COLUMBIA, KY - A road race held earlier this month in Edmonton, KY, helped raise $5,000 for an endowed scholarship that memorializes the life of a Lindsey Wilson College Student. The second-annual Caleb Capps Baseball Memorial Scholarship 5K Run was held May and attracted 145 area residents. The participants helped raise $5,000 for the scholarship.
