The seriousness of typos - a lesson from WKU's Bob Adams

Former Girl Reporter writes
These stories remind me of Professor Bob Adams' lesson on the importance of proofing headlines in his WKU journalism class. Example: in a big city newspaper a local department store ran a full page ad announcing a shirt sale -- so in huge type at the top of the page, the sale was declared, minus the "r" in the word shirt. - Former Girl Reporter; name and whereabouts on file, CM HQ

World's worst poet begs forgiveness

Inspired letter by World's worst poet submits inspired Owed

World's Worst Poet writes:
Hoping you can forgive the grackle/gackle doggrel verse. As you well know, I'm pretty damned blind to my own typos. However, I'm pretty sure neither of us has ever come up with the doozy of the magnitude a compositor for one of the London papers did back in the latter part of the 19th century. In the daily record of the Queen's activities, the poor compositor accidentally(???) used an "i" instead of an "a" in announcing that at such and such a time, she would "pass" over London Bridge. Now that, Sir, is a typo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The WWP
Thanks, WWP A similar typo is claimed to have been entered in an obituary of a person who died of renal failure. - MUCH MALIGNED CM EDITOR

Campbellsville reader expresses appreciation for CM

Bill Wethington
I wanted to send you a note to express my appreciation for the magazine that you publish. I live in Campbellsville, but I look forward to reading what is in your publication since I am in Columbia every Sunday preaching at two churches, one in Glensfork and one at Pleasant Hill. Frequently, I will eat lunch at one of the Columbia/Adair County restaurants before I drive home, and I always check the menus on this site to see what sounds good. Many times I can find out what is happening in Campbellsville/Taylor County from your publication before I can read it in the newspaper. Keep up the good work! - BILL WETHINGTON
Thanks. You've made my day! I appreciate your comments, and, of course, welcome suggestions on how we can improve. I do envy your Sunday morning drive. No places could be more beautiful. - EW
