Stephen Alexander Allen Graves, Adair Co., KY (1984-2014)

He accepted Christ at an early age and joined the Second Christian Church. A lot of people knew his as Stephen or Alex, but most people just called him "Pooh". He was a graduate of Adair County High School with a Merit Diploma. He was an Eagle Scout, the highest award in Boy Scouts. He was a member of the Adair County High School Band, where he received many awards. He graduated from Lindsey Wilson College with a BA Degree in History and a BA Degree in English. He was presently employed at Serco in Campbellsville. In 2011, he went to Ecuador and taught English to elementary students and was getting ready to have his second interview to teach in China. Although Stephen has left us, he was an organ donor and there are four living today thanks to Pooh.

Funeral services will be Monday, February 3, 2014 at 1pmCT, at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home, 200 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY, with Rev. Kenny Carter, Sr. delivering the eulogy. Burial in Dudley Cemetery. Visitation will be after 5pmCT, Sunday, February 2, 2014.

Two vehicle fatality collision on US 127 takes life of Hustonville man

Tragedy occurs 2 miles N of Liberty, KY

Kentucky State Police Post I5, Columbia, KY

LIBERTY, KY) - Trooper Kevin Roberts is investigating a fatal collision that occurred 2 miles north of Liberty on US 127 at 6:36pmET. Marvin J Lee, age 49 of Liberty was traveling southbound on US 127 in a 1989 Toyota pickup when he crossed into the northbound lane and struck a 2005 Suzuki. The Suzuki was operated by 26-year-old Michael Beal of Hustonville. Lee was slown from the scene to the UK Medical Center where he is listed in critical condition. Michael Beal was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Casey County Coroner. Seatbelts were not in use. The investigation is ongoing by Trooper Roberts. Trooper Roberts was assisted at the scene by Casey County Fire, EMS, and Rescue. - TROOPER CLINT WALKER

Helen Murphy, Burkesville, KY (1941-2014)

She was a native of Cumberland County, KY, and a resident of the County at the time of her death. She formerly lived in Adair County. She was the daughter of the late Holland and Pauline York Graham. She leaves 7 direct and 4 step living descendants. Mrs. Murphy was of the Methodist faith, a former sewing machine operator at Fruit of the Loom, former employee of J. Downey & Son Lumber and worked at York’s Dinner Bell in Columbia, KY

FRANKFORT, KY - Signups for affordable health insurance are still going strong in the Commonwealth - with an average of nearly 1,600 new enrollees each day. More than 195,000 Kentuckians are now enrolled in new health coverage, and that total is likely to surpass the 200,000 mark over the weekend.

kynect administrators report that the website consistently supports 2,000 concurrent users during heaviest usage times. Approximately one out of every 4 kynect signups is for private health insurance.

Raymond Estil Groce, Russell County, KY (1922-2014)

He was at Pearl Harbor when it was attacked on December 7, 1941, while serving in the the U.S. Navy. He was a native of Russell County, KY, and was living in Lincoln County at the time of his death. He was the son of the late Edward & Margaret Mae Wilson Groce, and the widower of Alice Robinson Groce. He was a retired security guard at the Phillp Morris Tobacco Co.

Thanks to the Adair County Board of Education on their appointment of Shamarie Claiborne as Media Publicity Coordinator. It is so exciting to see news of what is happening in our schools, both on CM and the local newspapers, in such a neat and "coordinated" fashion. And hiring Shamarie was a stroke of genius--her captions are as captivating as her photos! My only concern is for her family. There is so much to cover in the Adair County Schools that she might never be home. She needs a nice photo of herself on their refrigerator. Thanks, --Mary Knight

Public Service Commission Chairman David Armstrong reminds everyone who use automatic dialing in their telephone, computer, fax machine or other telecommunications devices that updates, if not already done, must be done now. The end of seven-digit call ended at midnight, January 31, 2014.

The Adair County Indians fell behind 10-2 to start last night's 5th region battle with E-town and could never fully recover despite several rallies. The Indians trailed 18-7 after one period but trimmed the Panthers lead to 32-26 at halftime. Ty Bennett connected on 4 three pointers and scored 13 first half points to keep the Indians close.
