Stephen Alexander Allen Graves, Adair Co., KY (1984-2014)

He accepted Christ at an early age and joined the Second Christian Church. A lot of people knew his as Stephen or Alex, but most people just called him "Pooh". He was a graduate of Adair County High School with a Merit Diploma. He was an Eagle Scout, the highest award in Boy Scouts. He was a member of the Adair County High School Band, where he received many awards. He graduated from Lindsey Wilson College with a BA Degree in History and a BA Degree in English. He was presently employed at Serco in Campbellsville. In 2011, he went to Ecuador and taught English to elementary students and was getting ready to have his second interview to teach in China. Although Stephen has left us, he was an organ donor and there are four living today thanks to Pooh.

Stephen Alexander Allen Graves, 29, of Columbia, Kentucky, died Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at 4:04pmET, at the University of Louisville Hospital in Louisville, KY.

Funeral services will be Monday, February 3, 2014 at 1pmCT, at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home, 200 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY, with Rev. Kenny Carter, Sr. delivering the eulogy. Burial in Dudley Cemetery. Visitation will be after 5pmCT, Sunday, February 2, 2014.

Casket Bearers: Josh Grider, Jeremy Hale, Daniel Fishback, Derek Coomer, Todd Smith, and Johnny Hale.

Honorary: Joseph Graves, Tim Smith, J.T. Payne, Chris Wilson, Alfred Smith, Anthony Miller, Nick Graves, Walter Graves, Josh Cheatham, Stephen Cheatham, Everick Lasley, and Stephon Boyd.

He was born June 3, 1984, in Columbia, Adair County, Kentucky. He died Wednesday, January 29, 2014, in Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky, at the age of 29 years, 7 months, and 26 days.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Clara Graves. Survivors include:
  • His mother: Jackie Graves of Columbia, KY

  • One aunt & God-mother: Erika Graves of Lexington, KY

  • One foster uncle: Stephon Boyd

  • Two great-aunts: Nina (Wilburn) Cheatham of Campbellsville, KY; and Mary Graves of Boston, MA

  • Three great-uncles: Ben (Anita) Graves of Boston, MA, Michael (Alice) Graves of Columbia, KY; and Foster Graves of Columbia, KY

  • A very special friend, who was like a brother: Paul Oghia

  • Several other relatives and friends
