Frigid times reminds scribe of sad weather-related story This could only have happened in Russell County, KY, but CM cannot totally confirm By JDGee All this talk of cold weather and climate change and the like brings to mind the saddest weather-related story I ever heard, told by my father, who, like his son, spake only the strictest truth. My pater nobilis related to me on number of occasions the strange events of a beastly hot Juy day back in the 1930s when he was plowing a popcorn patch with a team of mules. About three in the afternoon, the heat grew so intense the popcorn started popping right there in the field, fluffy white kernels flying everywhere. The mules thought it had started snowing and laid down and froze to death on the spot. At this point, Father would pause for dramatic effect, then add in hushed tones, "I dropped the plow handles and the reins and ran as far and fast as I could but still got a litte frostbit." - JDGee 2014-01-05 09:12:18 | Comments | Printable version
