Supt. Reed gives reasons for decision to close school Predicted extreme temperatures raise serious concerns. Adair School District closed Monday, January 6, and Tuesday, January 7, 2014, with "Go or No Go" decision to be made on Tuesday afternoon about Wednesday, January 9, 2013 By Alan Reed, Superintendent, Adair County Schools I know that snow is the topic of conversation today, but just as importantly record low temperatures are a major factor in the decision to close school Monday and Tuesday, January 6 and 7, 2014. Temperatures will drop all day Monday and end with thermometer readings from -5 or lower in southcentral Kentucky. The extreme temperatures raise serious concerns about our ability to get all buses started. At the top of the list of concerns is risks for our students as wind chill indexes go to -20 to -30 into Tuesday morning. All of this will happen in a short time frame. Transportation Director, David Jones and I, want to express just how dangerous Monday and Tuesday could be. PLEASE join Adair County Schools and take all necessary precautions to protect life and property during this unusal period. Sometime after Noon on Tuesday, January 8, 2014, we will make a "go/no-go" decision for Wednesday, January 9. There is a strong likelihood that our central office will also close due to risks to our employees. Once again no school Monday or Tuesday of next week. Alan W. Reed, Superintendent Adair County Schools, 1204 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY 42728 Phone 270-384-2476 This story was posted on 2014-01-05 11:17:32
