Fond memories of WGRB Tv in Cane Valley, KY

Fond memories of WGRB Tv in Cane Valley, KY Robert Cumming writes:
I have fond memories of WGRB Tv in Cane Valley after doing an on-air live debate hosted by reporter Connie Leonard in 1992. The debate was over an alcohol package sales election in Russell County and I represented the wet campaign while a Russell Springs preacher represented the dry faction. The format featured live telephone calls from viewers concerning the hot button issue. As it turned out the majority of Russell county voters were not interested in alcohol package sales and the measure was turned down . --Robert Cumming

The Last Full Measure of Devotion: Bryan Royse Goes to War

The soldier's last tattoo;
No more on Life's parade shall meet
That brave and fallen few..

By JIM

On the evening of Saturday, July 28, 1917, Bryan Royse, a well-liked and enterprising young farmer of the Garlin community and former student of the LWTS, and Miss Flora Hutchison, a woman possessed of "many noble traits of character," motored to the Burkesville Street home of Eld. Z.T. Williams and with solemn pledges appropriate to the occasion, were united in the bonds of holy matrimony.

Though undoubtedly the young couple's collective heart overflowed with love and brimmed with optimism, the looming spectre of war already cast long shadows over the hills and hollows of Adair County. Only three months earlier, the United States had entered the Great Conflict then engulfing the world, and in early June, millions of young Americans had registered for the draft. Just days before Bryan and Flora's marriage, his name appeared on the "First Call" list, and on Sunday, September 9, 1917, he and five other Adair Countians left Columbia for Fort Zachary Taylor near Louisville. He and Flora had been married six weeks and one day, and Bryan had turned twenty-one in late August.
