Sheriff Harrison Moss: No declaration, yet, but candidacy likely Checking around on the candidates for next year's election, it looks a lot like Sheriff Harrison Moss will be running for re-election in 2014. Saturday, at the Farmers Market on the Square, he didn't come out directly to say that, he said only that what he would say would not be what Adair County Regional Jailer is saying, that he, Wilson, doesn't plan to seek a second term. Both Sheriff Moss and Jailer Wilson were easily elected in the 2010 election on their first tries for elective office and both had been considered extremely likely to be re-elected. 2013-08-19 08:00:06 | Comments | Printable version | See topic Politics

The Butterfly Album - mid-late August, 2013 Click on headline for introductory comments and all photo(s) Tommy Bailey discovered that butterflies are in abundance at this time of the year. Yesterday, Sunday, August 18, 2013, he sent some stunning pictures of flowers which attract butterflies, including Sue Dowell's Butterfly Bush in the Young Additiion of Columbia, and from a zinnia garden. Zinnias are magnets for the beautiful creatures, he said. We don't have a photo, but Fay McKinley has a butterfly bush in her backyard, and says that he needs only periodic maintenance - trimming back every few years - to keep it full of blooms and full of butterflies. For those enjoying Adair County byways, flowers and butterflies are everywhere. A few of those are included in this album. As always, we like to have plant and butterfly species identified, and when they are posted without more information, comments from those with knowledge is always appreciate. - EW 2013-08-19 04:25:24 | Comments | Printable version
