Another Bridge - One of 2 - underway on Avery Rooks Road

2013-08-07 - Avery Rooks Road, Little Cake, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. A new bridge is underway near Little Cake, in Harold Burton's Big One District. This one is on Avery Rooks Road, which runs parallel to Neat Hollow Road off Little Cake Road in Northern Adair County. The bridge is another constructed in house by the Adair County Road Department, Jobe Darnell Superintendent. We've lost count, but will post later, on how many bridges have been built in CJE Ann Melton's two terms - but it's likely a record number for any chief executive. All the equipment above is owned by the County, including the retired school bus, now seeing service as a tool wagon. - CM

Along Avery Rooks Road: An artist's, photographer's delight

2013-08-19 - Avery Rooks Road, Little Cake, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener. Avery Rooks Road is a public byway but a seldom seen one for most Adair Countians. Lisa Lee, in the County Judge's Office, said that it's a dead end road, and, on the day this photo was taken, across the picturesque valley, we had a mission which precluded a trip to the end. Along the narrow road are several residences, wildlife is plentiful, and the wildflowers are gorgeous. - EW. Updates Ken Neat identifies the house as the Joe B. and Pearl Cundiff Neat Place. Gayla Baker concurs, and adds that her brother now owns it. She remembers eating cold watermelon from the cellar underneath the small building in the left of the photo.

Wildflowers of Kentucky: Flowers like Baby's Breath, but not

2013-08-22 - Avery Rooks Road, District 1, Adair County, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener. It looks a lot like Baby's Breath the staple of florists, but don't think it is. Can anyone ID this beautiful little white flower, seen on Avery Rooks Road on Sunday, August 19, 2013? We would love to know. - CM.
