Dog owners reminded to take special care in the heat wave

Fresh water is needed several times a day; if dogs are tied outside, they should be in shady area

Sandy Pyles

Pet owners who have a dog in a pen or tied need to remember to take the time to move them to a shaded area. A dog house sitting out in direct sunlight is like a oven, so try to find a shady area for them; and most importantly, keep lots of fresh water available for them!!!!

Water gets hot after a few hours in the sunlight, so they need fresh water several times a day. They are helpless when tied or kept in a pen so please take the time or ask a friend or neighbor if you are unable to see to them. The Kentucky Humane Society considers it abuse if a caged or tied animal does not have a fresh supply of water but most importantly - they are helpless. Thanks, Sandy --Sandy Pyles

Happy Tails: Katie and Bella already best friends

2013-07-19 - Columbia, KY - Photo by Tina Cook. Here's a picture of "Bella" who was adopted by Katie Boyd as a birthday present. Her mother Tina Cook called me the other day to say she didn't know you could fall in love with a dog so fast. Larry Smith had called me about a little dog that lived across from the radio station and they were feeding her. He was worried that she would be hit by a car. The owner agreed to let us take her. She has been spayed, vaccinated and is now in a loving home. This quote is from Katie's mom, Tina Cook: "Katie and Bella already best friends! We love her. Thank you so much for allowing us to give her a forever loving home!" - Peg Schaeffer

It's never been backburner, but with the school operations streamlined, and the campus' new configuration becoming a reality, Superintendent Alan Reed told the Adair County School Board last, night, the focus is going to be on academics. "We going to make scores jump, he said.

That was the big message last night, an attitude of save-before-you-spend firmly instilled, the Adair County School board moved ahead adoping Superintendent Alan W. Reed's and Technology Coordinator Carla Perkin's proposal to target copier lease costs next, for a projected savings of some $18,000 per year, and tabled employee raises until the August meeting, at one of the most upbeat Board sessions yet.

At the same time, the board continued an unrelenting effort to make the campus a model of campus aesthetics and safety, and approved a recommendation by Maintenance Director Ricky Bault to put new bleachers, at a cost of $53,286 in the Adair County Middle School Football field.
