Antioch Christian Church: unusual, Casey Co., KY sanctuary

A note: Bro. Paul Patton sent this information on May 31, 2013. Photographs he suggested have been obtained, and is posted today. If you go: Antioch Christian Church, 241 Antioch Church Road Map/Directions is 23.9 miles from the Columbia Christian Church, 206 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY, a little over one half hour away. Click on headline for item with photo(s) - EW

By Bro. Paul Patton

Antioch Christian Church in Casey County held a Decoration Day Services Saturday, June 1, 2013.

They have been doing this for ages and follow the same format: business meeting at 10amET (not a long meeting), followed by some traditional singing, usually a good vocalist is present, then an address; and when this is over they have dinner on the ground. It is about as much true to the form of the old time Decoration Day services that I know of.

And, of course, it is made complete by the surroundings. I don't know the exact date of construction for the church building (it is in my Casey County History book but I don't have one close by) but the late 1800's and the last time I was in the building the sanctuary looks much the same as always. Also, the Masonic Lodge meets upstairs so you get the idea of the type building it is.

Maury's moth has wingspan of over six inches

Maury Lewis writes:
The moth is still alive and I measured his wing span the best I could with him moving them up and down. They are over 6 inches. I broke off one of the stems from my butterfly bush and and I have him setting on it. If someone will tell me what I need to do to get him up in the air I will do it. He has a small damaged place on his wing, but I have seen butterflies with damaged wings flying before. - Maury Lewis

Oops! That ACHS council meeting is at 9amCT this morning

Comments re article 60170 Adair Co High SBDM Council meets Mon June 17 2013

Chad Parnell writes:
Ed, I checked with Mr. Young on the time for Adair County High School Site Based Decision Making council meeting...he said it should be 9amCT. - Chad Parnell
Thanks, Chad Parnell (and to Larry Smith) for catching that. We had "9pmCT" instead of "9amCT. Makes a huge difference. The meeting story, Calendar Events listing, and the Front page Events listing are all correct now. And to all, we more than welcome proof reading help. It's easy, and we can find the error easily when the reply device ("Comments" or "Comments/Corrections," or "Updates or Corrections" button with the item in question is used), or call us at 270-250-2730 with the item in front of you and we can correct the item in 30-45 seconds, usually. - EW
