June Dairy Day/Farmers Market June 15, 2013 Album

Click on headline for large photo album for photos already posted. Some may be added today and in the next couple of days

It was a very successful Saturday for Downtown Columbia on Saturday, June 13, 2013, with the Farmer's Market on the Square, a renaissance June Dairy Day, a Green River Kruzers car show, lots of local singing, and fortuitous visits which worked in so many ways - importantly, for local, permanent businesses whose welfare should always be a priority consideration. -CM

2013-06-15 - Adair Annex, 424 Public Square - Photo by Ed Waggener. Blueberries are in; these beauties are at Coview Farm's stand. These were the last of first picking, so Darrell Bunnell went back to Coburg to pick more. The market also had green and RED tomatoes. Blueberries are just beginning to ripen. Wayne Armitage reported that Tucker's Statinn will have blueberries starting next week at the Farmer's Market.

June Dairy Day brings out the colorful folks in and around town!

2013-06-15 - Jamestown Hill, Columbia, KY - Photo by Shamarie Claiborne. Brandon Frausto, Adair County's own Skateboarding Musician happens to be one of those fun loving Adair Countians out and about today. Brandon told me he has being trying to get a chance to perform his music today at June Dairy Day. Unfortunately, as of the time of the portrait, the answer was still a no – so this photographer can only say GOOD LUCK to Brandon in his quest to perform before the masses today! - Shamarie Claiborne

Cane Valley crafts mall for grandparents and collectors

2013-06-15 - Fountain Plaza, Downtown Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. A perfect place for a devoted Mema and collectors, was Joseph left and Trilby Vance's Sonny's Woodcrafts, coupled in a tent mall with fellow artisan Jerry Watson, center dubbed the Cane Valley Mall at today's June Dairy Day/Farmer's Market on the Square. Every kid had to try one of the whimsical heritage toys by Sonny Vance - pull a toy train or big wooden semi truck and trailer, or just walk a truck or watch a monkey shinny down a stick. The Mema - Linda Waggener - in the foreground was looking for stocking stuffers for Christmas 2013 for four grandchildren, and settled a custom made ones. Jerry Watson, also of Cane Valley, crafts beautiful bowls - no two alike, and was getting steady interest. The Trilby of Joseph & Trilby Vance, was present on the Square, but away from her station at the time the photo was taken. It's been a beautiful day for the combined event. The Square is closed off until 3pmCT this evening. - CM

For a moment: Port Louis in Columbia, KY

2013-06-16 - In front of Adair Annex, 424 Public Square, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. The Man Can Sing - Near the close of a very successful return of June Dairy Day/Farmers Market on the Square Saturday, June 15, 2013, those who stayed late at the festival were drawn from all parts of the Square to the music of Steve Chundy, the vocalist, and Caleb Selby and Nicholas Selby of Simple Truth, primarily devoted to their Christian ministry, but offering a blend of many musical genres. An original song - and a trademark one - is "Nailed to the Cross." They sing at a variety of venues, frequently at Haven Mission on Merchant Street in Downtown Columbia. Their style is influenced, too, by Chundy's birthplace, Maritius, an idyllic island nation in the Indian Ocean, highly ranked, the Wikipedia entry, Mauritius says, for its "democracy, economic, and political freedom." Chundy is the manager of the Cafe on the Square, which reopened to capacity crowds of coffee shop devotees on on Wednesday, June 12, 2013. Contact: Simple Truth Ministries. Mark Selby is in charge of bookings. 270-385-6075 or 803-295-0987.

Two South Central Kentucky favorites: Jan & Mackie Jo

2013-06-16 - In front of Adair Annex, 424 Public Square, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. Things get lively when the great Mackie Jo Pennington right, and equally great Jan Overstreet go on stage. South Central Kentucky fans and fans of the late Flatwoods Diner Friday nights know to expect lively, often sensuous performances performances from the pair, and they were not disappointed when the chanteuses took the stage for the finale at Dairy Day, Saturday, June 15, 2013 in front of the Adair Annex - from which the "X" in the upper corner comes, no other significance to that. They were joined by another former Dream Depot favorite and equally great Yulanda Bradshaw. The vertical brick break on the right is the Cemetery Walk off the Square, a vital passage for those who enjoy Downtown Columbia as the ultimate Walking Campus. At least it has that promise. - EW

Neal Sneed - better than anything in Nashville

2013-06-16 - Square, Downtown Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. Local celebrity Ronald Webb has a front row, seat by the stage as Neal Sneed held the rapt attention of an appreciative audience, most of whom sat up an impromptu auditorium on the Courthouse Lawn. The event was a bring your own chair one, but now that we know where people want to sit, wouldn't it be nice if the "powers that be," whoever they be, make that delightful shady spot even more inviting, with at least a few permanent seats and benches? Would be too much of a copycat innovation, even if Jamestown and Edmonton have perfected downtown nooks and gathering places? Neal Sneed, is another Dream Depot star.
