Antioch Christian Church: unusual, Casey Co., KY sanctuary A note: Bro. Paul Patton sent this information on May 31, 2013. Photographs he suggested have been obtained, and is posted today. If you go: Antioch Christian Church, 241 Antioch Church Road Map/Directions is 23.9 miles from the Columbia Christian Church, 206 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY, a little over one half hour away. Click on headline for item with photo(s) - EW By Bro. Paul Patton Antioch Christian Church in Casey County held a Decoration Day Services Saturday, June 1, 2013. They have been doing this for ages and follow the same format: business meeting at 10amET (not a long meeting), followed by some traditional singing, usually a good vocalist is present, then an address; and when this is over they have dinner on the ground. It is about as much true to the form of the old time Decoration Day services that I know of. And, of course, it is made complete by the surroundings. I don't know the exact date of construction for the church building (it is in my Casey County History book but I don't have one close by) but the late 1800's and the last time I was in the building the sanctuary looks much the same as always. Also, the Masonic Lodge meets upstairs so you get the idea of the type building it is. The church is located off US 127 north of Dunnville, KY, on in the less than .1 mile down Antioch Church Road. Pass the turn off at Phil, go up the hill toward Liberty and look for the sign on the left directing one to the Antioch Church and Cemetery. - Bro. Paul Patton Thanks as always, Bro. Patton - Saw it yesterday and took some gray day photos. Such a beautiful place even on a rainy, bit stormy day. Hard to understand why I had never seen it in 73 years hunting for such places in the 7-county areas. Took heed to advice from Larry Smith, to take a vacation in right here and home, and had a mini-holiday yesterday in Casey County (wouldn't trade it for 50 trips to Gatlinburg). -EW This story was posted on 2013-06-17 11:58:48
